Yet another quality programme from #BHAFC for the #afcb game on Tuesday. A classic cover from Jamie Eke, interviews, news and @spencervignes.bsky.social writes about Peter Ward, who lit up the Goldstone in the late 70s. There's also a look at our run to the 1983 #FACup final. Superb stuff

It's 125 years to the day since pioneering goalie Leigh Roose won his first Wales cap in a 2-0 win v Ireland. He was playing for Aberystwyth Town at the time having just completed his science degree at Aberystwyth University. Read 'Lost In France', my book about Leigh's life, to find out more.

In 1974 John Lennon chose a picture (drawn when he was 11) of George Robledo scoring for Newcastle in the 1952 FA Cup final for the cover of his album 'Walls and Bridges'. Watch out for my forthcoming biography about Robledo's incredible life, due out in April from @bitebackpublishing.bsky.social

Two fantastic performances, 7 days apart. Two equally brilliant programmes, rising to the challenge of providing unique content for 2 games against the same opposition. Superb effort from the @officialbha.bsky.social team and, of course, @spencervignes.bsky.social. #BHAFC

Thirty-nine years ago today, without doubt the coldest game of football I've ever attended as a fan or journalist. Peterborough v Brighton, FA Cup 5th rd, played in freezing conditions on several inches of snow with an underlay of thick ice. Would never happen now, rightly so.

Another superb programme from #BHAFC for the visit tonight of #CFC. As well as another brilliant poster from Jamie Eke there is an interview with Jack Hinshelwood and a fascinating look back at the Fans United game from 1997 with @spencervignes.bsky.social. The best £4 you'll spend tonight

As much as it's portrayed as the devil, Amazon reviews can make a huge difference to a book's fortunes. If you've ever read 'Lost In France', 'Bloody Southerners', 'Eric & Dave' or any of my other books, and enjoyed them, then please take time to give it a 👍 - thank you.

Remembering Norman Wisdom - actor, comedian, musician, singer & director of Brighton & Hove Albion during the 1960s - born on this day in 1915.

He managed Nottingham Forest, and he managed Brighton & Hove Albion. Not many people know diddly-squat about the latter. Read 'Bloody Southerners' to discover the story behind the strangest managerial appointment ever made in English football. #NFOBHA #BrianClough #PeterTaylor

Gradually getting through the website, changing the design of each season page, making it a bit nicer. The latest season to get the treatment is a pretty momentous one for #BHAFC, 2016/17. Programmes include the bumper 132-pager for the Bristol City game seagullsprogrammes.co.uk/201617

On this day 1983, #BHAFC thrash #MCFC 4-0 at The Goldstone in the #FACup 4th round. 16,804 see goals from Jimmy Case, Neil Smillie and a brace from Michael Robinson. The game was covered in this brilliant piece by @spencervignes.bsky.social in the Liverpool programme from 2023

Flashback to April 1958 - Brighton & Hove Albion have just beaten Watford 6-0 to pip Brentford to automatic promotion from Third Division South, with Adrian Thorne (pictured here) scoring five. Read my article in today's Brighton v Brentford match prog for the whole nine yards.

A merry Christmas to you all & an extra tip of the hat if you bought one of my books in 2024. Like buses, there'll be another along in 2025 in the shape of a biography about George Robledo, the first overseas star of English football. 'Til then, stay safe, stay well & be lucky.

Happy birthday to the wonderful, marvellously eccentric former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder & defender Hans Kraay, who turns 65 today.

'From an uptown apartment, to a knife on the A train It's not that far' Remembering the absolute treasure that was Kirsty MacColl, who died 24 years ago today.

One of my favourite pictures of the old Goldstone Ground, Hove. Future England World Cup winner Ray Wilson, born on this day in 1934, tries and fails to keep the ball out of Huddersfield Town's net in their 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in Sept 1959.

It's 113 years to the day since the great Leigh Roose made his Arsenal debut at Plumstead in a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough. On the final whistle the Welsh goalie walked to the centre of the pitch before bowing to each side of the ground, mouthing "Thank you" as he left the field.

"I just thought he came from another planet, another world." - Bobby Robson on George Robledo, the ex-Barnsley, Newcastle Utd & Chile forward regarded as the first overseas star of English football. Watch out for my biography on Robledo's incredible life due out next April.

If it's good enough for the cover of 'Shoot!'..... Brighton & Hove Albion & Crystal Palace (and British sporting culture in general) from the days of yore.

Perhaps the most (in)famous #BHACRY games came in 1976/77. As well as the 2 league games, we met 3 times in the #FACup, the tie being settled in controversial fashion in a 2nd replay at Stamford Bridge. A story brilliantly told by @spencervignes.bsky.social in his article last week #BHAFC

Cannot recommend highly enough, @spencervignes.bsky.social's book 'Bloody Southerners', which charts the difficult reign of Brian Clough as #BHAFC boss. In 11 days between 28 Nov and 8 Dec '73, Albion lost 4-0 at home to Walton & Hersham, 8-2 at home to Bristol Rovers and 4-1 away at Tranmere

I picked up copy of this book when @spencervignes.bsky.social visited us recently. Its terrific. Much more than just a book about two veteran Albion players, but also describes what football was like in the 50s and 60s. Recommended if you like your history and your football. #bhafc #nufc #welshfa

Sunderland v Stoke City in the FA Cup third round - the Leigh Richmond Roose derby! .....and if you don't know who Leigh Richmond Roose was, then you need to treat yourself to a copy of 'Lost In France', his critically acclaimed biography, rated 4.5 (out of 5) on Amazon.

Chances are you won't have heard of George Robledo. Hopefully that'll change next year when 'Postcards From Santiago', my biography of the record breaking Barnsley, Newcastle Utd, Colo Colo & Chile goalscorer, is published. Currently slated for release in April by @bitebackpublishing.bsky.social

So important to buy your printed programme. Here’s the cover for tonight, featuring JPVH who has been immense this season. Lots of stuff to read, including the usual brilliant article from @SpencerVignes #BHAFC #BHASOU

If you're heading to tonight's Brighton v Southampton game, then pick up a copy of the match programme and read my extensive piece on the 1976 FA Cup replay between BHA & Crystal Palace which saw simmering tensions between the two clubs explode into a full-blown rivalry.

It's William Blake's birthday today, born in 1757. William reckoned the county of Sussex was, quote, "the sweetest spot on Earth." I'm biased, having grown up there, and as a supporter of Brighton & Hove Albion, but what do you reckon?

Happy birthday Leigh Roose, born on this day in 1877 in Holt, Wales. Goalkeeper, scholar, soldier, maverick, arguably football's first true superstar, declared missing in action in Oct 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. Very proud, so I am, to be this wonderful man's biographer.

Brian Clough watches his Brighton & Hove Albion team take on Walton & Hersham in the FA Cup on this day in 1973. The Isthmian League club famously won the replay 4-0 at the Goldstone Ground with Clive Foskett, a joiner at the Natural History Museum, scoring a hat-trick.

Alan Mullery, born on this day in 1941, celebrates Brighton & Hove Albion's promotion to the top flight of English football for the first time ever following a 3-1 win at Newcastle in May 1979. Happy birthday 'Mullers'!
