Cannot be more excited for this. The venn diagram of prestige TV and Star Wars returns. youtu.be/AE4wxt70aUM?...

Thoughtful: "I would want to err on the side of trying to listen to the Spirit, and risking being wrong, instead of closing myself off so that I’m never wrong." via Simeon Zahl, linked below. mbird.com/the-magazine...

It's so odd to me that Paddington 2 is not avaiable in the U.S. as a part of a streaming service. It can be rented or bought, but not streamed as a part of a monthly subscription. It seems so random: why Paddington 2? People say it's good - but now I can't find it to verify?

"American evangelicalism suffers from an intellectual inferiority complex that sometimes turns into straight anti-intellectualism." David Brooks, in his NYT obituary for Tim Keller. Prescient.

Just so everyone knows, I've never eaten a cronut, and my life turned out awesome. I know, like, 12 years ago, it was the hight of culinary delights. But nobody's talking about them anymore I don't think, which means that they're probably really tasty but not a source of transcendent joy.

Just needing to get this off my chest. As a young pastor, I filled in at a church one Sunday where a colleage had just had a baby. I was given the famous text from John 15 - the word "abide" is used 8 times in 11 verses, and so I focused on the practical meaning of what it meant to abide.

Mind blown. Just now discovering that minimalist influencer Marie Kondo, the "Spark Joy" author from 2011, has an extensive shop on her website, which includes all sorts of nick nacks guaranteed to spark your joy. Most of them more than $100. shop.konmari.com/collections/...

Unsung hero of this winter: off brand cough drops. 🧵

My annual review of the Super Bowl ads went live today at Mbird. Call it the Gnostic Super Bowl - all the ads had something to do with the discomfort of being an embodied human: mbird.com/sports/super...

One thing about the @mikecosper.bsky.social podcasts at @christianitytoday.com - they have some banger tracks for their theme song. What is the theme track for DatDBS? I know it's by Dirt Poor Robins, but I can't seem to track it down. Not even Google AI knows!

A unique way to follow the irresponsible post game fun in Philly. So far, a barricade is coming down at Broad and Chestnut. They're asking for reinforcements. m.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/...

So incredibly impressed by the Eagles defense. They're strong, athletic, and well coached. An absolutely shut-down unit.

Yeah, ok, but remember 28-3. The script writers have no problem making things dramatic.

This was a tough weekender to put together this week, given that the new cycle is focusing on important matters outside my wheelhouse, but I am very happy with the results. Here's what I found this week: mbird.com/week-in-revi...

A tale of three movie trailers and everything wrong with Hollywood these days:

Always fun to note the first thunderstorm of the year. Sometimes they don't come until March. This year, it came today, on the last day of January.

When mom and both kids are wretching in the toilet and various 5 gallon buckets across the house and you're the only one caring for them all.

My write up for Mbird on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. A must-watch for any parent, especially those following the research from Jonathan Haidt's Anxious Generation. mbird.com/tv/adventure...

I really enjoy writing the Mockingbird weekender column - it gives me some time to catch up with writers I really like who have insightful things to say about modern life. mbird.com/week-in-revi...

When Tik Tok shuts down on Sunday, I just hope millions of Americans take, like, three or four days to ask how their lives are different as a result. Less stress? Less depression? More anxiety because the medication of distraction isn't there? An opportunity for real personal reflection is upon us.

It's cheaper to order a DVD of a beloved childhood movie off of ebay than it is to rent a streaming version off of most sites. And you get to keep it afterwards. Can you believe no streaming site has The Goonies?

One of the things I appreciate about Mockingbird so much is the bridges it builds outside of the Christian bubble. Case in point: having Oliver Burkeman (who's making the rounds plugging his new Meditations for Mortals book) in our print magazine.

I don't think we've had a normal full week of life since post-thanksgiving. Between holidays, sick kids, sick parents, and snow days, this winter has been uniquely rough.
