"OK, but that doesn't affect you" is just... the dumbest thing to say. If it affects my friends, family, people I care about, etc. then it sure as HELL affects me. I don't want them to suffer, therefore, they should NOT suffer. So any attack on them? Also on me. Stop using that dumb phrase.
