#NowPlaying Jon Hassell / Brian Eno - Fourth World Vol 1, Possible Musics "... a primitive/futuristic sound combining features of world ethnic styles with advanced electronic techniques. In its highest form the blend of influences creates an impression of a new, unified sound." - Jon Hassell

#NowPlaying "I use the word 'science' to indicate techniques and rational knowledge. And what the title implies is that the condition 'before science' is similar to the condition 'after' it - that there's a kind of circle thing and that science is the isolated one." - Brian Eno

#NowPlaying "On Low, the subject I was dealing with was so intangible to actually talk about, it was preferable to try and put it into music rather than words" - David Bowie

#NowPlaying The Soft Machine - Volume 2 (1969) I think this just nudges past Third for me as my fave Soft Machine. Love hearing Wyatt singing his absurd lyrics and the creativity on display is mesmerising.

#NowPlaying McCoy Tyner & Joe Henderson - Forces of Nature, Live at Slugs 1966

First album play of 2025. Fripp and Eno creating other worlds with guitar loops and synth.

#NowPlaying Henry Cow - Legend (1973) "Into Leg End we poured all our experiments to date - a year and a half of solid work, 8 hours a day, everyday – and got it out of our system, clearing the decks for the more radical innovations that were to follow." - Chris Cutler

#NowPlaying Hiroshi Yoshimura- Green (1986) 'There was a time when I found myself dozing off while making this music. I must have been very relaxed. During mixdown, even the mixing engineer was comfortably snoring.' - Hiroshi Yoshimura

#NowPlaying "I never did any overdubs, never edited anything. Just from the beginning to the end, it’s like this. It’s like a live recording. Everything was in the moment." - Manuel Göttsching (interviewed for The Quietus)

#NowPlaying The Closest Thing to Silence - Ariel Kalma, Jeremiah Chiu & Maria Sofia Honer (2024)

Tonight's movie. A Powell and Pressburger.

#NowPlaying Alice Coltrane - Carnegie Hall Concert

#NowPlaying Sun Ra - My Brother the Wind (Vol. 1) (1970) Sun Ra discovers Moog; likes Moog; adds Moog to sonic arsenal.

#NowPlaying Colleen - The Golden Morning Breaks (2005) Beautiful, pastoral ambience. One of my go-to discs for winter.

Reading these Buñuel scripts really nails how economic a director he was - he packed so much insight into 1hr 30m. As Silvia Pinal (RIP) says: "I admire what this extraordinary man created, because it all fits together like clockwork."

#NowPlaying Cluster - Zuckerzeit (1974) The music speaks for itself, but damn I love that cover!

#NowPlaying Donald Byrd - Kofi

#Nowspinning The New Jazz Orchestra - Le Déjeuner Sur L'herbe (1969) Stunning, progressive, big-band jazz. Incredible line-up, incl. Neil Ardley, Jack Bruce, Jon Hiseman, Barbara Thompson, Ian Carr. #Nowplaying #Vinyl

Angus has become very emotionally attached to this cardboard box and I don’t know if I have the heart to get rid of it #cats #boxes

#NowPlaying Airto - Fingers (1973) #vinyl #nowspinning

RIP Silvia Pinal (1931-2024) Simon of the Desert (1965) Director: Luis Buñuel

#NowPlaying perfect, wintry, ambient jazz. John Surman - Upon Reflection (1979)

#NowListening revisiting this beauty before the postie delivers the new one.

#NowListening Horse Lords - As it Happened (2024)

I think time to re-watch these gorgeous works by Jean Vigo. Only ever previously seen the AE DVD transfers, so the Criterion edition should be something special 🤞

#NowListening In case of stormy weather, apply Bill Orcutt. Music for Four Guitars (2022)

#NowListening Bert Jansch & John Renbourn - Bert & John (1966)

Don Cherry & Jean Schwarz - Roundtrip (1977)

Horace Tapscott & P.A.P.A. - Ancestral Echoes (Covina Sessions 1976) The title track on this is the most kick-ass slab of transcendental, modal jazz and I never want it to end.

Larry Coryell - Offering (1972) Fiery jazz rock fuelling my Saturday night.

Ghost Dubs - Damaged (2024) Heavy and brooding ambient dub. Complaints from neighbours-type frequencies.

Holy shit! Goat were immense, tonight.

The knowledge that the Louis Feuillade box set has arrived in the post but I can't open it until Christmas 😪

Angus up to his typical catrobatics...

John Fahey - The Yellow Princess (1968)
