The plan for NIH is in, source with full 64 page proposal for all of HHS is linked. Reported in WaPo. This is catastrophic. Reduction to 8 centers. 40% cut in budget. 15% IDC cap. This will decimate science across America open.substack.com/pub/insideme...

When deportations ramped up in the UK people formed anti raids groups which made this a consistent pattern and it's really effective. Immigration enforcement depends on the consent and complicity of communities allowing it to happen. It can't happen when people refuse them to steal your neighbours.

I've seen SEIU and SMART be louder about Rümeysa Öztürk and Kilmar Abrego Garcia than UAW has been about Mahmoud Khalil and as a UAW member in a white-collar unit I am Noticing

It’s so funny Matt Yglesias thinks Black people have the basketball gene

Old enough to remember when 30 campus speaker disinvitation attempts were a grave threat to free speech

this yglesias post is insane, the whole thing is him trying to square the fact that he quite obviously believes in hanania-style scientific racism and thinks trump isn't racist-racist with the need to not agree with nazis

[average biologist]: i've been studying this conserved domain of unknown function for the past 2 years, and i still don't know what it's doing [average race science guy]: i SEE the fitness landscape of evolution stretching back in time. i HEAR its symphony. and it says i'm correct about racial IQ

some raw masculinity on display here

You don’t have to be particularly sharp to decipher the code here. But if you need someone to say it, this is a major technology company and a sizable defense and intelligence contractor publicly declaring, with only the thinnest patina of deniability, that its cause is white nationalism.

My proposal is to take those people and raise their taxes by $24

Is the idea to make it impossible to know when something is actually tariff’d so the markets just can’t react?

Related: I think the Mismeasure of Man should be required reading for all scientists. Top ten most important book ever written, which radically changed the way I view the impact of my work on the world. Cannot recommend it enough especially for new scientists.

Absolutely. Barely anyone should actually read e.g. The Bell Curve on their own (and that’s the mildest entry in the race science canon I can think of), instead just read any of the several dozen in-depth scholarly critiques. There’s nothing to be gained from reading that garbage.
