Wow

The next blog instalment is from our three full days along the wildlife-rich waterways of the Kinabatangan! Featuring some awesome nocturnal birds and mammals, plus excellent views of wild Orangutans and the critically endangered Helmeted Hornbills! seafordbirding.blogspot.com/2025/03/born...

Good to hear. Thanks for the clarification Peter @peter-purbeck.bsky.social

After a classroom day in Weymouth yday, been at sea to the West of the Bill in Lyme Bay on a Volunteer Seabird At Sea (VSAS) training day today. The course was excellently run by Tim and Sarah from JNCC. Some quick post survey photos of Portland from a different angle to the angles Im used to

Thanks Paul. I've updated the blog with this update wrt European Bison & Stork nest confirmation and obviously given you the credit for these updates @paulrhodes.bsky.social

Couldn't agree more Jenny, other to be more specific "A major Sika Deer, plus any Munjacs (before they get fully established), cull...." Sika are the introduced species with numbers which are far too high. The native Roe Deer occur, but in very low numbers in comparison @jennysea.bsky.social

59 cattle egret heading towards the harbour roost along the Piddle this evening. 24 we’re feeding with cows on Ferncroft Farm Wareham Common and left before two groups of 17 and 18 followed on. Viewed from West walls bench. @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social

Today's Blog Post: Part 4 of the Dutch mini-break last week with @moorebirdsbybike.bsky.social Onto look for the Pygmy Cormorant at Lelystad Pygmy Cormorant, Tufted Duck, Whooper Swan & Scarlet Elfcap birdingpooleharbourandbeyond.blogspot.com/2025/03/19-f...

For a fire then the fine should be starting at 1000 quid As @lytchettbirder.bsky.social states £100 wouldnt cover the attendence costs. My £1000 wouldnt either for a big fire, but its high enough to start as a deterrant

This states: The first project that we have licensed for wild release is the National Trust’s Purbeck Beaver Project in Dorset - where beavers are expected to deliver many benefits across the Purbeck Heaths National Nature Reserve.....

If you don't understand the importance and the benefits of reintroducing Beavers back into the English countryside, then have a read of this article. Well done to @theguardian.com & all involved in pushing to reintroduce Beavers back into the UK

My latest Blog Post: Part 3 of the Dutch mini-break last week with @moorebirdsbybike.bsky.social With no obvious sign of the Spectacled Eider on Day 2, we left Texel & looked for these Dutch White Nuns, AKA Smew, along with some Redheads birdingpooleharbourandbeyond.blogspot.com/2025/02/19-f...

What a fabulous morning for the official Lookout opening event! 🩵 #WildBrownsea @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social

I heard someone talking on the radio this morning about leaving #dog hair out for #birds to use in their nests *If pets have been treated with certain flea treatments, this could kill the chicks* Now seems a good time to repost this article 👇 #neonicotinods www.theguardian.com/environment/...

DEFRA shouldn't have been continuing to put a halt to this Beaver release program a few months ago Maybe DEFRA have finally realised that the tories are no longer running the government

Looks good @wildontheroad.bsky.social @jonnysnaps62.bsky.social

Well worth a look as there are some stunning underwater photos @oceanauk.bsky.social

Oh my days, the geese on Texel last week! Tens of thousands of White-fronts, Barnacles, Brents and Greylags - a great spectacle after we'd seen the Spectacled Eider

After leaving Texel last Wednesday morning, our first stop was a roadside ditch full of Smew near Den Helder

After leaving Texel last Weds we headed for Lelystad where the long-staying Pygmy Cormorant gave us the run-around - but after distant views of it perched, we were treated to a fairly close flypast. Then @studlandbirds.bsky.social put me on a train to Amsterdam to meet the family

Nice photos Pete. Definitely better than mine taken without a convertor @moorebirdsbybike.bsky.social

Matt’s foreign blog posts are always an enjoyable read. Especially those covering places I visited c30 years ago. Its interesting to see how they have changed in the modern ebird world, when information is so much better & bird recordings are readily available @matt-eade24.bsky.social

A morning walk in the Corfe River Valley. At least 8 chiffchaff at Norden STW, kingfisher flying along the river and 2 marsh tit in woodland near Purbeck Park. There were plenty of scarlet cap too.

None of the locals know anything about this sighting that appeared on RBA and BG. Potentially visible from Jerry’s Pt, if it reappears

No but Pete did threaten to hire one on Texel. Albeit a seat in my car proved more popular. @moorebirdsbybike.bsky.social

I carried for some birding on my first visit to Luxembourg, with a bonus of 4750 or so Cranes moving through. Also, visited some famous WW2 historical sites: Arneham & Nijmegen & a look around the Bastogne area (Battle of the Bulge). A great mini trip to Europe thanks to the Spectacled Eider

Just got back from a wildfowl filled trip with @moorebirdsbybike.bsky.social to Texel for the Spectacled Eider: my new favourite Duck. Geese everywhere & some nice displaying Smew. Plus, Pygmy Cormorant before Pete headed for Amsterdam to meet up with his family
