Every time i come back to Starsector, it makes me really happy to see all the things i remember reading about about years ago in the game's lore end up being a part of the game. Been so long now that i learned how to draw, so i felt like doin a little somethin :)

Starsector 0.98a hotfix is out! Includes a bunch of assorted bug fixes, including for the shield AI issue, and a few balance tweaks. You can download it here: fractalsoftworks.com/2025/03/27/s... Can just reinstall on top of the existing installation, and it is save-compatible.

So, testing some stuff in a dev build, it turns out that allowing converted hangar on frigates for 0 OP is *not* an intentional new feature from @amosolov.bsky.social. (And here I was thinking, "This seems odd. Alex must have balanced this very cleverly in some way I don't understand.") #starsector

Did you know you can change the aggression of your un-officered ships? It's a bit of a hidden feature; hopefully this'll make it easier to figure out!

In addition to the Avoid changes (being able to put it on a waypoint/objective, not just a ship), also added a new "Ignore" command. I'd expect it to be pretty situational - ignoring even a frigate is often a bad idea - but it'll be a nice extra bit of control to have!

I finally put my (possibly Master of Orion 1-inspired) spaceship sprite pack together for Itch.io, here: dgbaumgart.itch.io/spaceship-sp... It never sold very well for some reason - maybe priced too high? Well inflation has made it technically 25% cheaper today vs release, so maybe that'll help.

Yesterday, was going over some of the first major mission arcs I wrote for Starsector. Interesting to me how my writing here has changed. - I'm much more comfortable with using "$heOrShe says", - & I think I've a way better handle on how to break lines to make the dialog box read easily/naturally

Added the option to put an "Avoid" order on waypoints and objectives. Excited about the strategic possibilities this should open up! (First thing I'm going to do is put one on the enemy spawn so my ships don't go there and get ganked by the reinforcements coming in.)

Was messing around with Starsector character posts and SPACE_CHIEF flashed by. I read it as "SPACE_CHEF" and got really excited. (Cooking minigame! Can you prepare curried noodles before the admiral's big dinner with the High Hegemon... in zero-g?) ...OK finish the rest of the game first...

Having a look at the Fury; I'm sure this build is far from optimal - and be honest I didn't think about it that much - but it already doesn't seem too bad? One thing I'm *not* seeing in my testing is it over-extending due to its "move forward" mobility system; possibly due to in-dev AI changes.
