In DSoD, Yugi has to choose between becoming the cool chosen one chara himself, or being the vessel of the cool fan fav chara in Atem. It's a dichotomy that reflects the fan perception of him as a result of DM, as well as the series treatment of DM as a product to continue returning to.

Think a big issue with Naruto talent discourse is people conflating the possession of special abilities with talent itself. Like Naruto has innate inherited powers, what he lacks is the talent to use them, so he needs cooperation to awaken them just like was the case with Asura.

Done with #Gx. Strong story and great character arcs. Felt like no character really overstayed their welcome and they all got what they needed. A very focused series like that. Themes were super cool and supported by some interesting mysticism. Won't go into 5Ds immediately but I am excited for it.

Earlier in #gx, Daitokuji describes fusion as alchemy, and alchemy as the refinement of the heart. Jim's duel with Supreme King Judai is building on that idea with Jim himself also being a fusion user who focuses on the past, and fossil fusion and dark fusion being placed as foil concepts.

While the gentle darkness is pretty well understood in theory, we can also see it in practice. Manjoume is also a "gentle" darkness, because he protects even monsters as weak and repulsive as the Ojamas from the light in the shadow he casts, where his light cast them away for their strangeness. #gx
