So, there’s a lot going on right now but lemme tell you about this great new book on CENTAURS that’s coming out soon! @katvolk.bsky.social , Jordan Steckloff, and I got the proofs this week. *Pls repost to spread the word - & boost my spirits* More info here store.ioppublishing.org/page/detail/...

Sharing more townhall videos today because they’re giving me hope. THIS is good trouble! Who is this man? I want to shake his hand and buy him a drink.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

This morning, the US National Science Foundation fired 168 employees, approximately 10% of its workforce, for no cause other than they were the agency's most recent hires. 🧪 Co-workers are leaving supportive messages before they have to clear out of the building at 5 p.m. Sent to me by a source ⬇️

They’re taking the wrecking ball to NSF today too. 🧪

In case you’re wondering what it’s like for fed employees now …

For planetary scientists & astronomers: #TeamRadar is holding a workshop on asteroid radar shape modeling this year, if you know any interested students or post-docs - sites.google.com/view/armw25. The workshop is being done primarily virtually; with in-person sessions in Spain and Finland.

Here is the infamous near-Earth asteroid 2024 YR4 from Gemini S acquired with a joint proposal from Catalina Sky Survey (Dr. Wierzchos) and Bryce Bolin. It's currently very faint and approaching magnitude 24. Really pops out with the 8m glass. 🔭🧪

Happy to announce we have joined BlueSky and look forward to sharing information about the amazing discoveries we make at CSS. Stick around for some neat stuff! #astronomy #asteroids #planetarydefense

This one was censored in the US so not sure how many of you caught this before, but little X knows about the election rigging. Which is why Musk has effectively kidnapped him and doesn't allow him to be with his mother or other family.

New: @aoc.bsky.social tells me that Democrats shouldn't bail out Republicans on a government shutdown without "incredibly substantial" concessions. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

So I am new to Heather Marsh, but goodness, there's a lot to like here - and to recognise... www.patreon.com/posts/resist...

Call to Action: Nationwide General Strike incoming. At least 11 million people are needed to pledge, that's nearly 3.5% of the US population. When the number hits 11 million it's time to strike. Spread widely. Take the pledge : generalstrikeus.com #3E #GSUS #USprotests

“Any hint of the selective suspension of congressionally authorized payments will be a breach of trust and ultimately, a form of default,” five former U.S. Treasury secretaries write. “And our credibility, once lost, will prove difficult to regain.”

Garrett Graff cracked a code here. He has been writing as if he were reporting on the United States as a foreign correspondent. As an American living in Canada, I cannot amplify enough how different the coverage I receive here is from the Musk-loving/curious news/opinion ecosystem in the U.S.

🚨SPECIAL ISSUE ANNOUNCEMENT🚨 "Exploration of the South Pole-Aitken Basin: A Keystone for Lunar Science" is open for submission at The Planetary Science Journal from @aas.org and @ioppublishing.bsky.social. Honored to serve as Guest Editor for this exciting special issue - let's see those papers!

From Jeff Stein on twitter:"Treasury warned in memo circulating internally that DOGE access to powerful payment network represents an "unprecedented insider threat risk," documents show Assessment was conducted by a threat intelligence center run by Booz Allen" www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

SCOOP: A US Treasury threat intelligence analysis has designated DOGE staff an ‘insider threat'. An internal email reviewed by WIRED calls DOGE staff's access to federal payments systems “the single biggest insider threat risk the Bureau of the Fiscal Service has ever faced.”

Buckle up everyone this is going to be a LONG thread but if you are a current Fed you are going to want to bookmark it because it’s the roadmap for what’s coming. #SaveUSAID #SaveAmerica 1/

This is not a U.S. Marshal, Federal Protective Service, or any other federal law enforcement officer. This is a private security guard from Triple Canopy. He has no authority to block members of Congress who have oversight of the EPA from entering the building.

A rambling 🧵 I'm in contact with a 10s+ Civil Servants. They're terrified & fighting for the existence of our society. Yes, there are some moles in there, but it's not even a small minority. The Human Beings in the agencies are not deconstructing us. If they were, it would've happened decades ago.

NEW: There is a small chance that an asteroid will strike Earth in 2032. What can we do? Well, first, we track it, and study it, very closely. Here's how that's done—and why, for the first first time, JWST has joined forces with planetary defenders. www.nationalgeographic.com/science/arti...

Although NOAA's page on atmospheric CO2 levels has vanished, you can still get this vital information from Ralph Keeling's team at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego keelingcurve.ucsd.edu Please follow bsky.app/profile/keel... for updates and share Don't let science be hidden

NOAA’s turn: Doge staffers enter NOAA headquarters and incite reports of cuts and threats “I think the strategy here is: ‘Well, we’re just going to do it and dare somebody to stop us, and by the time they stop us, we’ll have destroyed it.” open.substack.com/pub/scilight...

This paper really was a labor of love (and let's be honest, sometimes extreme frustration.. #science #amiright) for many members of the wonderful #DARTMission impact modeling team. I'm very proud of it, and it was a pleasure to help lead this work! Enjoy our exploration of hydrocodes and Dimorphos!

Huge protest outside the USAID building today against Trump and Musk's illegal shutdown.

You say: they shutdown USAID. You mean: they illegally broke in to a secure facility over a weekend, hijacked sensitive data on vulnerable people and US businesses, destroyed property Americans paid for, cut off resources for sick and hungry families, and fired Americans across the country.
