There is so much of this in the overall video game fandom lol. Like how there seems to be 20 million people on the internet constantly crying for more Metroid games, asking why Nintendo "doesn't care" about it, but then every Metroid game sells 2, 3 million TOPS.

I remember Nights Into Dreams getting a lot of hate initially. People wanted a new Sonic game, so they were disappointed to get Nights instead. It also had the unfair burden of being directly compared to Mario 64. But as time went on and people started to "get it," it got a lot more appreciated.
