What do you do with your career when all your training is as a Professor of Deaf Education and there are no jobs in field? I don't want to be an ASL teacher. I've been told too many times that I'm the wrong type of deaf person and don't belong in those roles.

I used to play classical & bluegrass guitar. I gave it up in college because I was embarrassed I couldn't play rock. I played for my Nana before she died. (She was a guitarist/teacher.) I pretty much quit since. Since January, I've been playing again. My fingers hurt. My heart does not.

I just had the realization that my husband and I are the same age as my mom was when he & I met. And I'm not ok. 🤣

My former employer just sent me a text begging for donations. They took enough of my life to warrant my response.

The non-stop application process is more soul-crushing than sleeping in my car for my crappy job was. I'm so angry at myself for falling for the hope of a new begining in PA.

#Pennsylvania is a nightmare for out of state teaching license holders.

My 9 yr old is making fun of us because we are chatting across the room via text. She can't grasp that this is the only way to have undisturbed adult conversation.

I've hit the point in the job search that if a higher education faculty position requires a letter of recommendation or official transcripts to apply, I don't apply. I'm not putting work on others to apply. I'm not paying to apply. Why are we demanding these before a person is a candidate?!

Musk repeatedly uses the R-word in posts and replies. Please stop sharing his screenshots here - without using #Alt. Many of us use moderation filters and we're bombarded with this unwanted, harmful and hateful slur. BTW journalists and big popular accounts are the main folx doing this. ♿

Me spitefully switching to #ASL in the lobby of the kid's therapy (OT/PT/SLP) because the #SLP is discouraging sign saying "it won't help and no one uses it, so it'll make things worse for child." My child taking the cue and responding in ASL: priceless. I can't always drop my opinion so...

I suck at journaling, but feel like these are days where journaling is going to be read by a future generation and be the fire they need to keep fighting.

Be the reason overpaid administrators have catered lunch planning meetings.

Something I wrote elsewhere but is relevant here, as we start this first full week of February 2025:

As a hard-of-deaf person, I always leave conferences both filled and drained. I'm filled by the people, the friends, and the content. I'm drained by auditory and visual fatigue. I'm drained by the emotions of knowing HoH kids don't matter, even to the field that should pay attention.

Reached 270,000 followers here on Bluesky this morning, which is just an amazing number. Thank you so much, and glad to be with you here! To celebrate, I've made a donation to The Arc, one of the oldest advocacy organizations for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. thearc.org

This is very scary. Please share this info in ASL widely so folks know their rights. youtu.be/1Q-fpFGqLes?...

I have felt like I've been a hurricane. Life, career, and family have been tossed and flipped. This week, I feel like I'm in the eye of the storm. I'm in the calm. I have another half of storm to go through, but my storm has been down-graded. Thank you #ACEDhh2025 & friends for giving me hope.

I am so proud of my colleague (Cindy Officer, NTID) for addressing how bias, politics, and propaganda is negatively influencing our field and how to teach our deaf kids the same. It took a lot of courage to present this topic at a national conference.

Good morning #ACEDHH2025 8am session Eyes on Language (see details: acedhh.com/conference-p...)

So thankful to be with my #ACEDHH family. Wish that there were microphones used. Hard of hearing people exist, too. Captions can't work without sound access.

The instant cutting of funds which support research and trials to save lives is eugenic. The instant cutting of funds that supports families is cruel and inhumane. The instant removal of human rights and dignity is evil.
