Great work by the Harvard community pushing the admin to finally think about fighting back. "The university will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights. Neither Harvard nor any other private university can allow itself to be taken over by the federal government."

If someone is concerned about non-citizens voting, the answer isn’t making registration harder for everyone; it’s automatic registration for citizens who reach 18 or are naturalized as adults. (Thread)

The SAVE Act will go to the U.S. Senate next-make sure you call your Senators and tell them to oppose this bill. Call them daily until it comes up for a vote, if you can! They are trying to suppress the vote of marginalized people!

Freddie Gray died after his arrest by Baltimore police a decade ago. His twin now has words to share.

If only the higher ed community had pointed out capitulation wouldn’t work. Oh wait…

Alternative headline: Acting Head of IRS Resigns Rather Than Break the Law

It’s a month since the administration detained and disappeared a green card holder, a lawful permanent resident. We cannot allow this to be normalized or forgotten.

I wrote about education, citizenship, and the administration’s sledgehammer approach to the gains we’ve made since the civil rights era for @nytopinion.nytimes.com: www.nytimes.com/2025/04/08/o...

Do not stop talking about how anti-DEI means pro white supremacy.

Rebuking Speaker Johnson is probably where my similarities begin and end with Steube, but I’ll take it.

When we rebuild higher ed, I kinda think only historians should be allowed to be college and university presidents.

they are segregationists, it has been obvious from the jump, and i think that pundits who dismissed the charge as hyperbolic should explain why they couldn’t see the fact pattern

As Trump regime pressures colleges to expel students and rewrite conduct codes, multiple Jewish Columbia students say they know they’re at risk of expulsion and continue to press for info on the Board’s involvement in Khalil’s arrest. I wrote on pressures to rewrite conduct codes, link below.

Burn it all to the ground and buy up the land and water and minerals at rock bottom prices. This a fire sale for the oligarchy. How do I know? They’ve already done it to rural America…

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

Feeling kinda down about autocracy so holding onto the fact that the richest man in the world literally couldn’t buy enough votes to purchase the WI Supreme Court election.

And, to be clear, it's almost certainly happening *because* the base has been screaming for action from elected Democrats. This isn't "relax, they've got this." This is "keep yelling, it's working."

The worst people in the world are like "They must be getting paid to hate me" when in reality everyone is happy to hate them for free

Diversity initiatives were meant to overcome the old patterns of nepotism, so I guess it makes sense that the enemies of diversity are big fans of nepotism.

Just a good day to remind us all not to collude with white segregationists

It's not just the most visible universities being damaged by the administration. It's all of them.

We know our job: to defend our campuses and communities and to protect freedom of speech and academic freedom, research that saves lives, and the institutions that provide crucial services that benefit every person residing in the US. We will fight and we will win. www.aaup.org/news/aaup-pr...

It is shameful that public higher ed presidents and leaders didn’t even fight back against this.

I’m pretty sure the correct steps for Wisconsin voters are: 1. Vote for Susan Crawford 2. Go to Elon’s propaganda talk and win one million dollars 3. Donate one million dollars (minus taxes?) to progressive candidates of your choice

UT senator is offering 5 min 1-1 convos with constituents at town halls, which sounds like a nice way to hear individual concerns, but is actually a tactic to keep constituents from learning they have common interests and building solidarity with each other to put pressure on their elected officials

If human rights aren't enough to get higher education executive leaders to take a stand, is $44 billion dollars enough motivation? #HigherEd #AcademicSky www.aau.edu/newsroom/lea...

The cancelling of long covid research in the U.S. (because according to the new regime, we don’t need COVID research anymore) is an appalling failure to care for millions of Americans that have - and more that eventually will have - long covid. The health and economic costs will be devastating.

In good news: It was so exciting to gather and talk with community college teams this week about the work they’re doing to connect student parents to child care. I’m savoring the good work these folks are doing and the energy to build things that meet people’s needs.

What people in every part of higher education need to understand is that Republicans now want to do to universities what they’ve tried to do to labor unions: erase them from the institutional landscape. The question is how much you want to collaborate in your own destruction.

A more appropriate headline would be, Speaker Johnson floats removing a check and balance on the exec branch.

You as a single individual DO NOT have to "keep up" with ALL of the information of every single thing happening across the entire world daily. You don't because it's impossible. Focus on a couple of things and act on those things. Don't feel ashamed that you are doing that.

I’ve been really pressing people to focus on this regime as evil more so than incompetent, but I will eat more words a little because clearly it’s both and neither can be ignored.

If you ever had the slightest bit of imposter syndrome, remember that you didn't send out top secret war plans over a signal chat where you didn't know a journalist was invited in to.

Long COVID is real and affects many Americans. Closing the office is a betrayal of HHS’s mission.

"Sure, we accidentally added a journalist to the Signal groupchat, but we should definitely be trusted to decide who is a Tren de Aragua member"
