Writing update - progress is being made on the YouTube front. Should be able to start releasing regular videos in a few weeks. On the game module front, hit a minor snag (self-doubt, the writer's worst enemy... that and semi-colons), but am back on track for American Legends to be out on July 4.

Jeff here - So, in writing and creative news, I'm making good progress on the next episodes of Script Slayers. The format will be a bit different. Due to some scheduling issues, you'll just get to hear my soothing voice. Steph will still be involved in the writing.

Jeff here - not a writing thing, but I am interested in AI and what it means to various aspects of our lives. And yes, that includes writing and art, things near and dear to me. But, this BBC piece is about the use of AI in therapy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9A-...

I love a good board game to play with friends and get away from all the screens. Recently played Settlers of Catan and crushed it!

Jeff here - got my new writing table set up on the balcony. I am happier about this than I have been about any table in the past 😄

We’ve been rewriting some mediocre films in preparation for more Script Slayers YouTube videos. Just rewrote Uglies last night. It felt like this movie would have landed better if it came out in earlier 2000. Its themes of a society obsessed with looks and screens came about a decade too late.

Jeff here - Finally wrapped up the outline for my next novel. Should have been done about a month ago... but better late than never. Now, a little more research, a few mods to character arcs and a few decisions to make with world-building (I have some decisions to make about how magic works)... 1/2

Today's work station... balcony with a (sort of) view of the Potomac. In DC/North Virginia, we're still in the pre-swamp weather, so I'm enjoying it. But the swamp is coming. It always does. #writing

Jeff here - writing goals for this week are 1) continue research for the next #Vaesen module and 2) tinker with the outline for the next novel in light of some research I did for that last week. Pretty doable… he said before the usual distraction storm began. #writing

Jeff here - Today is a scheduled Mandatory Fun Period. The snacks will be eaten, the drinks will be… drinkened (am I writer, dammit, I can do what I want with English), the games will be played, and no fucks will be given. These are the rules of MFP and they must be obeyed. 🙂

The first episode of our new YouTube series - Script Slayers - is out. In this episode, Steph and I review and rewrite Alien Romulus, fixing the issues we had with the screenplay. Check it out and subscribe - we plan on doing a few of these every month. youtu.be/syYZcQF-NdU

Jeff here - Working on the first episode of our new YouTube channel, Script Slayers. It's based on our podcast of the same name (on Spotify). Steph and I review and rewrite movies that have script problems. Check back for more updates. Like, "hey, here's our new video - go watch it." #filmsky

After a 6 month break where we focused on our Curia Chronicles book, we will be relaunching our Script Slayers movie review and rewrite show but with a new twist. For Season 3 of Script Slayers, we’ll be posting these episodes on YouTube in addition to our podcast. Stay tuned!

Spending the day with Curia Chromicles marketing (boring) and shooting the first episode of our new YouTube series, Script Slayers. In this series, we review and script doctor movies that need an intervention.

Watched Alien: Romulus last night. I was expecting it to be scarier. Jeff and I will be doing a Script Slayers movie review and rewrite of it soon so stay tuned!

Jeff here - Research for the next #Vaesen module -American Legends - is proceeding nicely. In addition to Paul Bunyan, John Henry and Uncle Sam, I’m adding Columbia. This should come in at about 12 pages and be available on July Fourth. #ttrpg #gamedesign

Jeff here - Generative AI - asides from the IP issues - has terrible accuracy and often makes things up. But people use it because they are lazy. Like this example from the Chicago Sun Times. #AISucks www.theverge.com/ai-artificia...

Steph and I will be at the Fright Reads Book Festival outside Baltimore in September. We’ll have a table, so if you are in the area, stop by and say hi. www.frightreads.com

Our state Virginia has had 86 Bigfoot sightings with the last one being in November 2024 in southwest VA. The man was on his way to work at night and allegedly saw a massive furry creature hunting wildlife. There’s an entire website that catalogs this stuff. #bigfoot www.bfro.net/GDB/show_rep...

My son told me tonight he believes in Bigfoot so I went down a Bigfoot rabbit hole. The most sightings are in Washington according to this map. Maybe the forests are denser there for Bigfoot to hide? Our state Virginia is pretty lame at only 86 sightings. Maybe we need a trip to the Shenandoah Mts.

My new #Vaesen game module, Hollow and Horseman, is now available on Drivethru RPG. It has new Vaesen, a description of Sleepy Hollow with NPCs and scenario ideas, new powers... and, of course, a headless dude flinging pumpkins about. Check it out. #TTRPG www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/5...

Jeff here - Tomorrow the next game goes live. It's a supplement for #Vaesen - a fantasy/horror #TTRPG set in a mythical 19th century - adapting Sleepy Hollow and the Headless Horseman for the game. I'll have a link to purchase it from DTRPG, but I'm very happy this is done.

I want one!

What a day. Spent the entire time editing and formatting my Sleepy Hollow module for #Vaesen, but it's finally done. It will be available tomorrow. I'll publish the link when it is live. 26 pages, 5 new Vaesen, some new powers and a bunch of scenario seeds. Pretty happy with all my work. #TTRPG

Jeff here... lots of writing scheduled for this week - a mix of fiction and gaming projects. Also, fingers crossed, Steph and I will be able to announce a couple of conventions/book fairs we're attending as vendors. Details to follow.

Have you listened to The Curia Chronicles podcast? If not, what are you waiting for? 10 stories about demons and demon hunters, set in the 1960s. Hey, we even have a Papal Conclave story (Pontifex Demonicus), so, you know, topical.

Just finished The Exorcist - the book; I've seen the movie a zillion times. Really enjoyed it. Blatty's style - very choppy at times - takes a bit of getting used to. And the actual exorcism is pretty short; but the characters are interesting, and Blatty creates a nice atmosphere of dread. #booksky

The Curia Chronicle sales are struggling. I'm not sure what to do. Is there an eldritch horror that helps with these kinds of problems? A version of Nyarlathotep that provides good reviews and scintillating marketing? In the meantime, check it out and buy a copy. #booksky a.co/d/2smn9C3

Jeff here - Game development day. My great plans for a productive weekend turned into… something else. Possibly involving pints of ice cream and existential panic. Anyway, staring into the abyss doesn’t pay the bills. And so, today is #ttrpg #writing.

The College of Cardinals will gather in Vatican City for a conclave to choose a successor to Pope Francis. The term “conclave,” is Latin for a “room that can be locked up.” There’s also a 2024 film. Check out our Curia Chronicles podcast Ep4, Pontifex Demonicus, that takes place during a conclave.

Jeff here - As I finally wrap up my next Vaesen supplement about Sleepy Hollow (only 2 months late 🙃) I'm already researching the next one, about a secretive group of hobo investigators, riding the rails of 1890s America. Will try not to be quite so behind schedule this time. #vaesen #ttrpg

Jeff here - Getting ready to go on a self-guided Little Free Libraey tour of Providence, RI. Pretty much what it sounds like. I use the #LittleFreeLibrary app to find the locations in a new city and check out as many as I can. Great way to see a bunch of neighborhoods and get free books. #booksky

The Curia Chronicles podcast Ep4, Pontifex Demonicus (1963), takes place during the 1963 papal enclave to elect the new pope. The cardinals elected Cardinal Giovanni Battista Montini, Archbishop of Milan, who took the name Paul VI as pope. #AudioFiction #StoryPodcast #FantasyPodcast #HorrorPodcast

Jeff here - While this account is generally staying away from politics, I felt the need to post this piece from the Guardian on the challenges libraries face in the age of Trump. Libraries are near and dear to my heart and a cornerstone of democracy. #BookSky www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Jeff here - Finally landed a basic plot for my next novel. While that might sound a bit odd, I've been working on this for a while. I have a whole cast of characters and a detailed world. I know the where's and the why's... 1/

Jeff here - apropos of nothing, but it's the 30th anniversary of the release of Tank Girl. This was the first "date movie" I had with my wife... which we both loved (no judgement please - our tastes are our own :-) ). That was just the start of decades of geeky love. #FilmSky

Update-ish about YouTube - We decided to try out an ep or two of a video version of our Script Slayers podcast, before getting into the Curia Chronicles material. The first ep should be out in a few days. In it, we'll check out The Electric State and give you our rewrite. #YouTube #FilmSky

Check out our Curia Chronicles audio story: Pontifex Demonicus (1963). In the wake of the Pope’s death, the angel Ruth asks a retired hunter to help her kill a demon at the Vatican that is trying to influence the selection of the next Pope. #AudioFiction #StoryPodcast #FantasyPodcast #HorrorPodcast

For the last couple of years, we've been producing a podcast, Script Slayers. In it, we review and rewrite movies. We're moving the show to YouTube, but the podcast is awesome (I may be biased). Check out the show on Spotify. #Filmsky #Podcast #FilmReview open.spotify.com/show/2SaCKqc...

Due to the Netflix boring slopfest that is The Electric State, Simon Stalenhag's source material is getting some attention. If you are in the mood for more of his work, check out The Labyrinth. Set in a post-apocalyptic world in which alien spheres are transforming the planet, killing most people.

Marilyn Monroe’s real name was Norma Jeane Mortenson. In Curia Chronicles podcast Ep3, the Angel Ruth addresses Marilyn as Norma. Norma Jeane legally changed her name to Marilyn Monroe in 1956, after she had been using the name for a decade. #AudioFiction #StoryPodcast #FantasyPodcast #HorrorPodcast

In Curia Chronicles podcast Ep 3, Norma and Marilyn (1962), we explore the possible connection between the Kennedy family and Marilyn Monroe’s untimely death. We recommend this series to learn more about the topic. #AudioFiction #StoryPodcast #FantasyPodcast #HorrorPodcast
