"Why don't more women report sexual assaults?"

I'm begging people to use their common sense and to check their knee jerk reactions to sexual assault cases. Mere days after it happened, he texted his friends to say he was glad he left the hotel room because they were hitting her so hard, it was hard to watch. Why would he have lied?

The WHO has officially declared the Covid variant NB.1.8.1 to be a “Variant Under Monitoring” which is reminder that this pandemic continues to be many things but one thing it is not is under control.

This week’s Citified post comes to us from Jacara Droog who is a housing advocate, member of the Unsheltered Campaign, and is writing in solidarity with residents at 100 Victoria. The post highlights the Region of Waterloo's recent passing of bylaw 25 and its impact on residents.

A common clapback from measles minimizers is that, "Measles was no big deal when I was a kid. Everyone had it. So why are you so panicky now?" Let's break it down with some national Canadian data... Thread [1/6]

In California, solar panels on farms generates 25 times more revenue than crops. Some farmers are doubling up, growing shade-loving crops beneath panels or grazing livestock, creating wildlife habitat while maintaining food production. buff.ly/KI3lR47 #ShareGoodNewsToo

For folks who don’t know, ethnic studies programs like African American/Africana Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicano Studies and the like come directly from civil right era campus activism. Attempts to disempower such programs should be framed as attacks on civil rights same as much else rn.

This is why your child is not getting Educational Assistant support. This is why there is no Special Education Teacher to help your child catch up on basic math or literacy skills. This is why the ventilation in your child’s classroom is not working. www.policyalternatives.ca/news-researc...

“Are you ever going to stop masking?” People ask this with disdain, as though they can’t comprehend how someone could *still* be masking in 2025 I like not being sick. If I had known how effective N95s were, I would have worn them before! As long as society stays in denial, masking is necessary

It's never too late to mask up with a respirator either. Your health is far more important than social pressure, especially as repeated COVID infections come with more health complications. If you can't afford them, check to see if a mask bloc is near you: maskbloc.org

Joe Rogan (15M followers on X): "Tetanus is not dangerous" Fact check: "In the 1980s, before widespread use of #tetanus #vaccine, tetanus caused over 1 million deaths each year, mostly in infants. Vaccines have brought the number of tetanus deaths down dramatically." - CDC Chart: Our world in Data

We need to acknowledge and deal with the stigma around COVID infections. Far too many people won’t test because then they might feel a duty to isolate. Others are afraid to admit they have it because they might be accused of not doing enough to prevent it. 🧵

FACT: The more people choosing to walk, bike & take public transit to get around cities, the better cities work for EVERYONE, including DRIVERS. Anyone claiming that less car dependency is a “war on cars” doesn’t understand how cities (or geometry) work. It’s time we tell #TheTruthAboutTraffic.

Never take seriously those who ridicule low income people for having a smartphone or laptop. “If they’re so poor how did they buy an iPhone???” Because they’re trying to escape poverty, not the 1700s, genius. If you think basic tech access is unnecessary or a luxury, survive a month without it.

The good news is that the rationality virus has been rendered immune to herds. The Logic pandemic is almost under control.

Your 'moment of doom' for May 24, 2025 ~ The beginning. "What stands out about 2025 so far isn’t just the number of tornadoes, but how Tornado Alley has encompassed just about everything east of the Rockies, and how tornado season is becoming all year." theconversation.com/in-2025-torn...

Spy TVs. They are defective by design.

This is a subtlety that is generally not spoken about in media reports on #measles. Vaccines are probabilistic. They are not 100% effective. Which is why everyone needs to be onboard with vaccination. It’s by its nature — because of mathematics — that we need to deploy them at scale.

Watching so-called progressive Christian "influencers" and preachers use AI stealing the work of scholars and literary writers is so intellectually dishonest that I have no words to describe my rage. If you are a liberal Christian, your entire tradition is built on academic credibility.

Canada has been named among the top 5 countries with the best quality of life. The United States ranked 22nd.

“To limit spread, [Ontario School Safety] is calling on the province and school boards to intensify vaccination efforts and to upgrade ventilation and air quality in schools and on school buses.“

According to the international news the “New Covid Wave in Hong Kong Is Causing Severe Infections in Children,” and meanwhile according to the national news it is about to become much more difficult to vaccinate your children against Covid.

If you engaged in COVID denialism the last few years by pretending the pandemic’s over, it’s still 2019, & you don’t have to mask, even on planes—then you bear some responsibility for having dangerous anti-vax people like RFK Jr. in charge of our health agencies. #HardTruths

The new FDA policy paper on COVID-19 vaccination by Vinay Prasad & Marty Makary included a table comparing the new US policy with other countries. However, they got most of the recommendations wrong - some lacked nuance, & others were blatantly incorrect. Thread by me @ @sciencewhizliz.bsky.social

The U.S. plans to cut Energy Star. Could that raise costs for Canadians? Canadian efficiency label relies on U.S. for its name and many other things — but not everything www.cbc.ca/news/science...

There's only one reason the FDA has decided to deny Covid boosters and thwart the development of NextGen shots. It's pure revenge. That said, the CDC hid information that the vaccines did far less to stop transmission than originally promised. Which one is worse? That misses the point. It was both.

They shuttered one Ontario landmark to support the total destruction of another.

Hey Canada especially Alberta and Ontario - the American pay through the nose system doesn't keep rural hospitals open either. Properly funding public healthcare can. #PublicHealthcare

In the early days of this pandemic we would balk when they told us that we have the tools, but here in the current day of this pandemic as they introduce mask bans and make vaccines inaccessible we can no longer even say that we have the tools.

Essential public services aren't supposed to be corporate profit hogs! What if we took the same stance with healthcare? Public transit? Police services? This is all positioning by the employer to bully the union into a CA with concessions.

Canada we cannot be unaware any longer of the insidious American MAGA narratives at play in our country. They own many of our newspapers, radio shows and even columnists and pundits. Every time you see a headline or hear an argument ask yourself who it ultimately benefits. 🇨🇦 #CanadaSky

If we could admit the following, it would save many lives: COVID is airborne COVID is not over COVID is a social justice issue & everyone deserves access to vaccines, respirators and clean air COVID can impact everyone, not “only the vulnerable” Lastly, the “vulnerable” deserve protection too

The Special Education funding model in #OntEd is broken, and it's hurting our kids. We need: 1) Funding based off of actual needs and programs 2) Funding based on current demographics data (not outdated census data from 20 years ago) 3) Funding indexed to inflation

“a woman’s devices could be seized to help establish a woman’s knowledge & intention in relation to the pregnancy. That could include checking a woman’s internet searches, messages to friends & family & health apps such as menstrual cycle/fertility trackers” This is the UK, not the US:

“A review of scientific research has found that pedestrians and cyclists are 44% more likely to be killed in a collision with an SUV or light truck, compared to a passenger car. The outlook is even more dire for children, who are 82% more likely to be killed when struck by the larger vehicles.”

While we spread C19 and other diseases through every classroom, and congratulate ourselves on a job well done… a combination of deadly factors is ensuring the most vulnerable kids in our world are being killed in waves… We could reduce this together. Peace. Clean air. Clean water. Food.

Every Victorian child will get free public transport from 1 January next year. The state government says more than 1 million children and their families will benefit from the $318m program.

Iceland approved the 4-day workweek in 2019: nearly 6 years later, all the predictions made have come true. Productivity remained stable, & even increased in some sectors. The reduction in stress, combined with a better work-life balance, has had a significant positive impact on employee well-being
