I stand with the trans community. themelissaverse.wordpress.com/2025/01/20/t...

So anyway, my little company "Monster House" has published a book by noted "weird stuff" investigator, Joe Nickell! amzn.to/3I6vjow Every purchase directly helps my company and its channels like MonsterTalk and InReSearchOf. If you like Joe and support his kind of research, please spread the word.

After learning about them from @doctoratlantis.bsky.social, I visited the Barron Park Donkeys today. They were adorable.

Relic of the dot-com era: a gimme pad and pen from a Netscape event.

Today I was asked in an interview about folks who use the weirdness of ✨quantum✨ to hawk pseudoscience junk. I think that kind of grift proliferates because of a big misunderstanding a lot of folks have about quantum mechanics, which is not really their fault! 🧵

This German meme was just brought to my attention and I feel obligated to reshare it here Frohe Weihnachten

New batch of plum jam (curb your excitement!) This batch I’m trying with a pectin recipe.

Moved my account to my own PDS. Thus my new handle (stephen.oysterarchery.com).

Lobster stock. I didn’t expect this to be a cooking account, but this appears to be what I’m doing.

Other activities this week: made another small batch of plum jam. (I freeze plums from our backyard tree in the summer, then make jam in the winter in small batches.) It’s a pectin-free recipe, but it’s a little on the runny side, so I tried adding a little corn starch. It didn’t seem to do much.

A few weeks ago, I dropped by my parents’ house for a visit. As I was coming in, I noticed that a large hawk had landed on their front porch! Thinking it would fly away, I took a picture… and then it ran into the house. (1/x)

I'm considering what an atproto-based gift registry would look like. Has that been done yet? #atproto

Yesterday’s task: boiling down the turkey carcass for stock. Today’s task: making jam from the plums in the freezer, so I have room to freeze the turkey stock.

Thanksgiving is done. All went really well. The combination of making giblet gravy the day before, and cooking the turkey sous vide, is both better tasting and less stressful.

Our family has done turkey sous vide for a while. The turkey is very tender and the meat all gets done to exactly the right degree. So my turkey is already cooking for tomorrow.

During the 2020 lockdown, I used my time constructively. Yes, it’s a recreation of the Prisoner (1969) opening sequence in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Why do you ask? #acnh #theprisoner youtu.be/uX8OOLUQklQ?...

This is Hubble. He’s a 15-year-old Corgi. His arthritis and vision problems make it hard for him to get outside, but he’s learning to use a ramp.

I'm experimenting with hosting my own BlueSky PDS, but until I'm confident with it I'm not going to put my main account (such as it is) there. So I have a test account for it. You can find it at @oystertest.oysterarchery.com. It's going to be almost entirely nattering about PDSes.

I am debating my rules of engagement about this account. On one hand, basic opsec means I shouldn’t make it easy to be identified. On the other, I can’t post anything without thinking about whether this identifies me. Gripping hand: what’s the point if I can’t post?

I’m starting to get into #meshtastic. It’s a distributed messaging system you can use without the Internet.
