On this day in 1903, several thousand white people lynched a Black man and attacked Black neighborhoods in Joplin, Missouri, burning homes and forcing every Black person to flee the city.

Because the “problem” the bill purports to solve is non-existent, everything it does is “unnecessary” and every requirement it imposes is, definitionally, an “unnecessary barrier.” Imposing unnecessary barriers is WHY the imaginary problem was invented.

“Remember his name,” the wife of Kilmar Abrego García tells the world. The Supreme Court has ordered the Trump regime to "facilitate" the return to the United States of Kilmar Armando Abrego García, the Maryland man whom the U.S. government abducted and sent to a hell-hole, torture-laden…

yeah man, please make my 85 year old great aunt prove her citizenship to vote in rural georgia, this definitely isn’t reminiscent of anything in the american past

Forcing people to pay $130 for a passport in order to vote is just a Jim Crow poll tax by another name. It is blatantly unconstitutional.

Media says tariffs are paused, even though many are not and the US has much higher tariffs now than a few months ago. A lot of media calls the tariffs “reciprocal,” even though that is a combo of a lie and nonsensical. More of the long-running media failure with Trump, treating truth as secondary.

The White House. The actual White House. This is the attitude of every abuser, who is now fearful of the consequences of their abuse.

why is *every* newspaper/programme running with the headline "tariffs are paused" when they haven't been. What's happened is that every country (except China) gets a flat rate of 10% for 90 days.

The options here are: a) he is so far down the anti-scientific road he really believes this b) he doesn’t necessarily believe this specific thing, but his worldview is entirely shaped by rightwing conspiracies that point in that direction c) he simply has no problem pushing dangerous conspiracies

FFS can we stop calling them "Tariffs on China" or "China tariffs"? Call them "tariffs on Americans" because that's what they effectively are. If an American parent orders a $300 stroller from China, they will have to pay a customs duty of $312, costing the parent $612. China still gets the $300.

I called this opinion a gimmick: A way to strip Boasberg of review while still giving the illusion of due process. @kovarsky.bsky.social lays out a bunch of legal evidence that's what's going on.

If you voted in the Nov. North Carolina Supreme Court election be warned they are trying to purge +60k votes from the election. These are ballots that have errors on them and need to be corrected. Below is a link to the list of names. Check if you are on it. thegriffinlist.com

At present, the S&P500 is at about the same level it was a year ago. I think the prospects for the economy today are considerably worse than they were a year ago. If so, the market has some way down still to go.

This asshole raised prices and ruined your retirement savings, and now he's out golfing for the rest of the weekend.

Bombshell in North Carolina: the state's GOP-dominated Court of Appeals just sided with the GOP candidate in last year's supreme court race. Their decision would toss roughly 60,000 ballots (!) that have been counted, & likely hand the election to GOP instead of incumbent Dem Justice who won it.

The general dynamic here seems to be that the regime's terrible approval on socio-economics is balanced by the fact that enough people are in on purging the nation, disappearing "alien enemies," and deporting unwelcome foreigners? That's morally abhorrent, and the incentives are extremely dangerous.

Trump went to a LIV golf tournament instead of attending the dignified transfer of four U.S. Army soldiers who died in Lithuania. If you're wondering why this is so disgusting and insulting, I wrote about my time in the Army doing dignified transfers here: www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...

NEW: There's no reason to act like Trump is pursuing a trade policy or an industrial revitalization strategy. These are just sanctions, imposed to intimidate countries and companies into submission like they're universities or law firms. They're what a mob boss would do. prospect.org/economy/2025...

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney: "If the United States no longer wants to lead, Canada will." This is what real leadership looks like.

Really looking forward to Jeff Bezos' forceful public condemnation of Trump's tariffs since he is so committed to "free markets" that he made a rule that every opinion piece published in the Washington Post must support "free markets" For some reason, Bezos hasn't said anything yet. Must be busy.

GERMAN VICE CHANCELLOR: “.. Last night’s decision is comparable to the war of aggression against Ukraine. .. The magnitude and determination of the response must be commensurate.” 🇩🇪 @bloomberg.com www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

🚨Georgetown University Law Center students are detailing which law firms have caved and which have stood up to the Trump regime. They have created this spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets... Please share widely.

This was….five months ago

I'm not concerned about the undocumented immigrant with some parking and speeding tickets. I'm concerned about the American citizen with 34 felony convictions who is driving America right into a fucking ditch.

Jewish students at Columbia have chained themselves to a gate (already locked) to protest ICE detentions of student protestors. They accuse members of our board of trustees of providing information about students to ICE and are demanding accountability.

I read this piece twice and for some strange reason the Post doesn’t identify which political party the disgraced councilman belongs to. Anyone want to take a guess?

Rubio Orders U.S. Diplomats to Scour Student Visa Applicants’ Social Media ... Fidel Castro would be so proud. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/01/u...

Latest law firm capitulation just dropped. $100 million in pro bono work for the Trump regime from Willkie Farr.

💥🇭🇺 Police have given up guarding Budapest’s Liberty Bridge as anti-government protesters shut down traffic on four major bridges, rallying against Viktor Orbán’s new law curbing freedom of assembly and banning the Pride march. They vow to escalate with a 24-hour shutdown next week.

France’s institutions defended its democracy, upholding the law. South Korea’s institutions defended its democracy, upholding the law. Brazil’s institutions defended its democracy, upholding the law. Only America’s decided a criminal must be allowed to break its laws and destroy its democracy.

Breaking democracy: Donald J. Trump, the American far-right leader, was not disqualified to run for President by providing aid & comfort to insurrectionists, nor banned by the Senate after inciting insurrection, nor convicted for conspiring to overturn election results. Every institution failed.

Good reason to bump this from last year on the benefits of automated traffic enforcement. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

NYU canceled a planned speech by the former president of Doctors Without Borders because she planned to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and cuts to US AID. This is what actual campus censorship looks like.
