this week, as a kindness to everyone you know who is adopted, maybe refrain from referring to yourself as an “orphan” bc you’re mad your parents are voting differently than you. also please don’t jokingly ask others to “adopt” you. community is varied and strong and that’s good enough on its own

November is National Adoption Awareness Month. It started as an initiative by MA governor Mike Dukakis. The “awareness” has to do with promoting #adoption and nothing at all to do with the experience of being adopted. Many of us hate NAAM, and we need to stand ready to support each other.

I’m just another annoying ungrateful adoptee who will be quite literally telling you the true facts about adoption from someone who lived through. Fact 1.
