Medical textbook is pulled from shelves after an extract found stating the line – "It is important to note that as an AI language model, I can provide a general perspective, but you should consult with medical professionals for personalized advice." pivot-to-ai.com/2025/04/12/1...

Imagine being off grid for a week and coming back to these headlines that were paired on my feed this morning: - Who will be the next pope? - Francis takes helm with Kraken

I really hope 99 other US senators are looking at this and saying "holy crap I didn't think it was going to happen, maybe we do have the ability to effect change and reassert the rule of law. Maybe it's not too late after all."

If you're looking for physics faculty resources, check out PhysPort! The resources are based on physics education research (PER) to help support teaching. Supported by AAPT and funded by the National Science Foundation ow.ly/AlCj50MTKB3 #Physicseducation #Physicsteachers #Physics #ITeachPhysics

This is exactly how we debate retirement in my department. Very normal metrics in play.

AAPT is pleased to announce that physicist Dr. Nadya Mason has been selected to receive the 2025 Richtmyer Memorial Lecture Award for outstanding contributions to physics and for effectively communicating those contributions to physics educators. Read more: ow.ly/NHW650VARAS #AAPTSM25 #AAPTAwards

I would support the formation of a constitutional republic.

If you're on your phone or your computer and you're about to type the words "if I recall correctly" please stop and just use your device to research whether you do in fact recall correctly. Use that phrase only as a verbal signal that you're about to get on your device and look something up.

You have to wonder how those with the most wealth & power have the least courage. But then you realize how so many of them got there: inherited privilege, opportunity hoarding, and a system that exploits the labor of others for their benefit. Courage is for others, not self. They can't relate.

Today I was having a conversation with students about electron shells and the shape of the periodic table, and I managed to lose a great deal of status by saying that I don't know the Ariana Grande song "7 rings" so I can't comment on its relevance to electron shells.

I'm not loving this new 10% tithe you guys voted for.

Fun fact, "Generation X" is supposed to be pronounced "generation ten" because it's the tenth generation after the American Revolution. That's where the term comes from. "Millennials" are Generation XI (pronounced "eleven"), but internet culture doesn't seem to know these basic fun facts.

Just working their way down the list.

@npr.org trying to both sides the first amendment this morning, this is far beyond disappointing, it’s an insult to the intelligence of every listener.

The door stop is a little old thing that keeps the door from closing! Door stop, baby.

I was unsuccessful in my attempt to peacefully re-home a wasp that got into the kitchen, so I got a neighbor to help me with some less peaceful methods, and now I have a kitchen that smells like insecticide. Anyway, I'm going to support a local restaurant this evening.

Jason Hornbuckle is in that tweet screenshot and what else?

I’m spending today at the Spring Meeting for the Chesapeake Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers. Thank you George Mason Physics & Astronomy for hosting!

This is going on my annual report.

I found a new fun thing to do with the mirage mirror… pouring salt is unexpectedly satisfying! #iteachphysics

I always figured that in the long run China would have a good chance to surpass the USA in innovation and research. But I thought it would be due to decades of investment in advancements by China, not due to the USA destroying its own programs. And yet... www.axios.com/2025/03/31/u...

I've got to work on those "fishing boat proceeds"

I must have missed something, how does @mlb.com have the Dodgers 4-0 here on the 3rd day of the season? (The Cubs being 1-3, that I can believe.) www.mlb.com/standings/

I'm a little frustrated (but not heated) that @nytimes.com "Spelling Bee" won't take the word "adiabatic"

Great point, I hadn't thought about this at all. What I have been thinking about a lot lately is John Adams serving as defense attorney for the redcoats in the Boston Massacre. The "we don't need trials" mentality is as anti-legal as one can get. We can't be free when our government is anti-legal.

I find myself wondering whether all of those texts I deleted from unknown numbers, asking if I was interested in a job that's available right now and pays really well, might actually have been from Pete Hegseth.

To build on @reecejones.bsky.social here- these people are burning the whole “how to keep your family safe” portion of the great library of Alexandria, because some of the scrolls were written by women, and some say Pharoah’s friend poisoned the Nile.

I just flew from Virginia to Louisiana, and boy are my arms tired!

I've never seen a politician openly reject bedrock American principles (and my vote) the way the current POTUS does. I cannot fathom how anybody can vote for this, but they did.
