Snow Buntings have been scarce this winter at South Shields. The last bird I saw here was on 13th November last year. So this was well appreciated when it briefly dropped down onto the Pier wall this afternoon. #NEbirding

Could we please stop hashtag stacking on this feed #NEbirding. I left Twitter because having to scroll down all the time was a massive pain. Its beginning to happen here now. Thanks!

Stock Doves are not very vocal, so it came as a surprise to me that having gone through my nocturnal audios from last night in West Park, South Shields that they were quite vocal throughout the hours of darkness. At least 2 to 3 vocalisations on average almost every hour. #NEbirding #UKbirding

Love is in the air! This pair of Ring-Necked Parakeets from West Park this afternoon was having a good old smooch. #NEbirding #UKbirding

24 species on a walk round West Park in S. Shields this afternoon. Main highlights were at least 6 Ring-necked Parakeet, 3 Treecreepers, Redwing calling in the trees and 2 drumming GS Woodpecker. A bit video of 1 of the Treecreepers. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A walk around Colliery Wood, Boldon yesterday was very depressing. Just 1 single Redpoll and 2 Siskin were all that were seen or heard in 2 1/2 hours. Highlight though was this Siskin in song. #NEbirding #UKbirding

I came across this Med Gull in S. Marine Park this afternoon with a red leg ring. After all the gulls took off and then resettled I tried to get better photos of the ring, only to find there was no red ring. WTF, until I realised it was a different bird. #NEbirding #UKbirding

The Med Gull with the yellow leg ring from 2 days ago had been ringed as a pullus in June 2018 in SE Sweden. The pic on the right shows its history since. #NEbirding #UKbirding

An even rarer visitor to S. Marine Park was this Greylag Goose which dropped in beside the local Canada's. Not entirely wild as it was happy to feed with the local ducks. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A Purple Sandpiper on S. Shields Pier this afternoon determined that nothing would stop it getting the food. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A ringed Med Gull on the Dragon Playing Fields, S. Shields today. I have sent away for info on its history. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A short clip of the 1w Glaucous Gull that briefly spent time on S. Marine Park Lake this morning, before flying off when all the gulls went up. 1st tick for a few years here. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A short clip of a female Bullfinch feeding on nettle seeds in N. Marine Park this afternoon. She was out in the open just a couple of metres in front of me, showing no interest in my presence. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A bit of an experiment to see if I can use better quality video on this platform. This started out as 8K and by manipulation I have reduced to FHD. It seems to have retained good quality, for only 37MB. Feel free to comment though. #UKbirding

I make no apologies for posting a 2nd short clip of the Ross's Gull from yesterday at South Shields Pier. #NEbirding #UKbirding

An amazing patch lifer. Ross's Gull this afternoon from S. Shields Pier. A few secs of slomo showing off its wedge shaped tail and pink underside. Sheer class. #NEbirding #UKbirding

Another Med Gull today. This time a 2w bird in S. Marine Park. Possibly the long staying bird 1st seen way back last August. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A load of Gulls (mainly BHGs) on The Dragon playing fields this morning. Found this adult Med Gull and just managed a quick photo before the dogs walkers set them all up and away! #NEbirding #UKbirding

A 2w Med Gull cruising along S. Shields Pier this afternoon, waiting for the anglers to drop some bait. #UKbirding #NEbirding

The Med Gull from yesterday had been ringed as a pullus in 2017 in NE Poland. Not seen again until 2021 when it has since visited NE England every year, during the winter, returning to Poland for the breeding season. #NEbirding #UKbirding

An adult Mediterranean Gull bathed for a while on S. Marine Park Lake, this afternoon, before heading off. The sharp eyed amongst you might have noticed that the bird has been ringed. I have sent the details away to Poland and will hopefully hear back soon. #NEbirding #UKbirding

Apart from 5 Purple Sandpipers on S. Shields Pier today it was absolutely dead. #NEbirding #UKbirding

The drake Pochard is back on the lake at S. Marine Park this evening. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A count of 8 Little Auks north past S. Shields Pier this afternoon were always distant. However this close bird, sheltering inside the pier, more than made up for it. It eventually disappeared after a GBB Gull started shadowing it. #NEbirding #UKbirding

Common Pochard on S. Marine Park this afternoon. New Bird or the same bird from 2 weeks ago? Squeezing oil from its uropygial gland, it uses its head and bill to give its feathers a good waterproofing, . #NEbirding #UKbirding

A ♂︎ Sparrowhawk from Boldon Flats this morning. Before I had started filming, it had been running around chasing something, possibly a Jack Snipe, although I never saw anything. When it landed It rummaged in the undergrowth for a minute or two before taking off stage left. #NEbirding #UKbirding

3 Med Gulls (1 Ad and 2 x 2nd w) seen amongst a flock of 100s of BH Gulls, with Kittiwakes and Common Gulls on Sandhaven Beach, S. Shields, during a pre roost gathering, this evening. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A bit video of 5 of the PF geese amongst the Greylags at Boldon Flats this morning They don't normally come quite so close as they are usually very cautious. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A bit video of a Willow Tit on the feeders at Boldon Flats today. Originally 8k but had to reduce to FHD to play on here. I have added a bit tinny soundtrack of a pair of Willow Tits calling, from a couple of days ago. #NEbirding #UKbirding

I have the info back about the Snow Bunting, that I posted a bit video of the other day, that was sporting a ring. Nice to find out a bit about its history. #NEbirding #UKbirding

It has been a poor autumn so far, number wise for Purple Sandpipers at S. Shields Pier. But 7 today gives me hope for an increase in numbers. #NEbirding #UKbirding

A bit slowed down video of the drake Common Pochard, that turned up with an imm/female in S. Marine Park this afternoon. A great sighting considering they are very rare in this part of the world. #NEbirding #UKbirding

3 Snow Buntings on Sandhaven Beach today. They are not the same birds as yesterday though, this is a different male. It was a very confiding bird, coming really close. This slowed down video is only slightly cropped due to applying stabilization. #NEbirding #UKbirding

1 of the 4 Snow Buntings from S. Shields Pier this afternoon. I have sent away the details of the ring (as much as I could make out), so hope to hear about its history, soon. #NEbirding #UKbirding

#nocmig from last night in N. Marine Park. The invasion of Redwings seems to have slowed right down. Only 1 call in 10 hrs. In fact I had more Grey Heron calls, with 2. Also 1 Fieldfare, 3 lots of PF Geese and a flock of 15 Whoopers south at 9am. #NEbirding #UKbirding
