Are these the last crispy hazy mornings of the winter?

Spring’s gonna spring

Marshmallow clouds over Peckham yesterday evening.

Right now #wind is meeting 51% of the National Grid's electricity demand. https://winderful.uk

However true it might have been in the past that our economic model generates the best or even the most economically productive use of resources, the idea it still does now is clearly bullshit.

Maybe they are all just neo-Nazis.

I get occasional ghost emails from Readwise readwise.io/i/steve909 , which I loved, but couldn't justify the monthly sub. This morning's flashback quotes are zingers. I love Gravity's Rainbow so much.

I’m being gaslit by Apple Intelligence. I had to check on a calculator.

Your shortcuts to the facts ain’t the facts.

Natural instinct is to want to keep on top of how quickly things are moving. But it’s too much, too fast.

It’s album release day for both Anna B Savage and FKA Twigs. Both exploring human connection in very different but equally sensual ways. Both great.

A very pleasing scrabble go…

This is lovely.

Loving the @commenergyengland.bsky.social State of the Sector 2024 infographic. It does a great job of explaining what community energy is and does. communityenergyengland.org/files/docume...

There’s something almost endearing about how wrong Amazon recommendations can be

Last time I checked the EU never tried to overthrow a UK Govt. Where are the sovereignists now? Their silence is deafening www.ft.com/content/dd4b...

If you have a passion project of some kind and fancy talking about it at Conway Hall, @undermanager.bsky.social is doing Interesting again and looking for speakers. It's a great event and a lovely venue in which to do a short talk to a biggish audience. russelldavies.typepad.com/planning/202...

And breathe…

Loving Torino

Happy winter solstice, after what feels like a particularly dark and dismal few weeks. Now a bit of bumping along the bottom and then upwards!

Here's a little petition. It's nearly 20,000 signatures old. Can you help to get it to 100,000? Then the UK government might debate it. Beg,ask, cajole, pester all friends, family, groups & communities to sign & share it: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

“Community energy is a nice-to-have for leafy middle class villages!” I hear you cry. Once upon a time maybe, but not today. Community energy groups do immense work for a just transition. In this blog, I outline the opportunity and how it can be unlocked at scale: www.regen.co.uk/community-en...

This is clearly fine… “19% of the time, o1 is seen manipulating data to pursue its own agenda against user goals. Can deny wrongdoing when questioned. Even “fabricate false explanations” 99% of the time.” www.bayareatimes.com/p/trump-name...

The Spanish commentators are imitating JAWS music every time we get a corner. It's absolutely ridiculous hahaha

Christmas has come early this year... Say hello to our first wave of acts playing End of The Road 2025. Explore the lineup here: endoftheroadfestival.com/line-up/music/

I got this for my 13th birthday, and have spent the best part of 20 years trying to get it to turn on after finding it in the loft. All it took was one trip to the brilliant Nunhead Repair Cafe and it’s working again. Unending thanks to Karl down there who is amazing.

While we’re starting anew on Bluesky, it might be time for some new metrics. We’re ditching bike lights and phones, since the numbers are no longer meaningful. What would you like to see instead? So far we’re thinking: Miles of streetlights? Schools? Hospitals?

This half not so much 🙈

Utterly sumptuous half from Arsenal. 🧑‍🍳💋

Had the Father John Misty album on repeat since the weekend. It’s so good. If he came back to @endoftheroadfestival.com this year I wouldn’t be at all disappointed 🙂
