Love how small our little town is.

#InstructionalDesign #LearningDesign #CurriculumDesign folks: What resources do you recommend for established programmes that are looking to 'convert' to hybrid/online? e.g. @jisc.bsky.social's "Beyond blended" guide is substantive, practical, and very accessible. www.jisc.ac.uk/guides/beyon...

Submissions already coming in for this symposium that seeks to bring people to think together and to think otherwise so as to plot critical and creative post-AI educational futures. Please spread the word and come join us: www.hackthiscourse.com/symposium/#/

In case anybody wants to see what I get up to on Wednesday nights here in Dublin... youtu.be/WMkTJLswpc4

Alicia Castillo Villanueva (SALIS) discussed her adoption of gender responsive pedagogy to curriculum design and teaching practices. A good intro to gender responsive pedagogy here: "Gender Responsive Pedagogy in Higher Education: a framework" (Chapin & Warne, 2020) www.inasp.info/sites/defaul...

Our table discussion yielded the excellent point that student engagement can fail by overstructuring - in a worst case we're forcing students into a rote performance of engagement theater -and we have to maintain a sense of authenticity that plays to our own strengths as lecturers.

Looking to opportunities for improving engagement, Monica Ward cites interactive oral assessments and our student engagement tool Vevox as ways to make our classrooms more dynamic.

In our panel on student engagement, our student union rep is discussing the factors contributing to student isolation ("the loneliness epidemic"), particularly in the midst of a housing crisis where just getting to campus can be challenging. We need to give them a reason to be (and STAY) on campus.

DCU President Dáire Keogh opens up Teaching & Learning Week, noting that it provides an opportunity for colleagues to take time out of their hectic schedules to reflect on contemporary challenges and opportunities and how we can enable our students to flourish #WeAreDCU

Good morning from Day 1 of Teaching & Learning Week at DCU! In the opening panel on student engagement, Prof James Brunton, citing the 2012 What Works Report on Student Engagement (linked) emphasises that engagement requires a fostering a sense of *belonging*. www.advance-he.ac.uk/knowledge-hu...

I am enjoying an autoethnographic reading of an open letter to a young technologist by @stevedotedu.bsky.social of DCU at the @iltasky.bsky.social #Edtech24 conference

Some artefacts from my #EdTechIE24 presentation today, a professional autoethnography, including a classic Moretti-ism. (If you know, you know...) bit.ly/welshedtech24

Slides from Ignatia de Waard's #EdTechIE24 day 2 keynote on Strategic Improvising with AI, chock full of useful resources for AI in education: kicinnoenergycom-my.sharepoint.com/:p:/r/person...

Absolutely howling at Ignatia de Waard's #EdTechIE24 morning keynote. Thanking her for this lovely and hilarious repository of historical technodystopian takes: pessimistsarchive.org

Slides from Pete Windle's #EdTechIE24 Gasta on the strategic imperatives of GenAI in HE. www.slideshare.net/slideshow/em...

Feeling VERY called out by Celeste Auge's Gasta polemic on the incoherent inconsistency of formatting in online learning spaces. Her team is issuing a style guide on writing for the internet for ID's and instructors. #EdTechIE24

In this afternoon's #EdTechIE24 "Reconciling Open Education with Generative AI" panel, @gravesle.bsky.social mentioned the Civics of Technology blog here: www.civicsoftechnology.org/blog/collect... Good collection of resources here from ENMU Libraries: enmu.libguides.com/c.php?g=1371...

In this afternoon's #EdTechIE24 panel on "Reconciling Open Education with Generative AI", @sharonlflynn.bsky.social discussed applying the Out Framework for Ethical Learning Technology to GenAI. Here's the framework: www.alt.ac.uk/about-alt/wh...

In discussing entangled pedagogy, we're hearing for the first but not the last time "put the learning first, and the technology should follow". #EdTechIE24

Nice to see Zeta Dooly thoughtfully aligning SETU's VR pilot projects with the Sustainable Development Goals. #Edtechie24

Prof. Martin Oliver of UCL asks us to consider ‘little’ futures that are within the reach of all of us that may open pathways to ‘bigger’ futures. Whilst we might not agree on which of these that are ‘good’, we need to work out how to accommodate different interests in practice. #edtechie24

Okay, first conference off [hellscape platform that shall'nt be named]! Greetings, #edtechie24! I'm Steve, a Learning Technologist from DCU. Presenting Friday afternoon. Say hi! 👋

I've enjoyed a tweet-free online life post-Elon. It's done wonders for my cognitive health (and given me much more idle time for online chess). However, at long last, and with great reticence, I'm charting a very tentative exploratory expedition over here in the New World. Not making any promises. 🫣
