Expecting a visit from a local version of Herne the Hunter...🦌

One of my favourite local trees...

If you're interested in Alice's current location, it's here. Staying in a nearby sixteenth-century pub. With plenty of creepy ghosts intruding, of course! Shropshire, South Wales, the Peaks, Nepal, India and now London... she does get around! 😁 Check out The Ghosts of Alice series via my linktree

Thanks to my friend and artist Lee-Anne van Wyk for pointing out why I don't find winter quite as arduous as some. Lee-Anne says it best in her post, from which these lovely pictures are reposted: "Unlike most other people, I like winter as I find the structures of trees beautiful and fascinating"

A few weeks ago it was Alice and the Devil, now it's Black Beacon's turn! Just one more rating/review to make a nice round 100... anyone? 👻 #horrorthreads

A pleasant walk at Denbies vineyard, filling in time whilst waiting to collect my son from a trip.

See things differently, is the exceedingly brief Prelude to my first poetry book, Up in the Air, published in 2018. All too often, I forget to appreciate the interest and beauty of what I'm looking at. How much time do you get to just stop and stare? #poetry

"This series just keeps on delivering. Well recommended!" "Be prepared to race through this exciting, dark story!" "Too scared to sleep...extremely good book, I read it in one day!" If you fancy some 'compelling & spinetingling' reads this weekend, check out The Ghosts of Alice. #ghoststories

Just a pretty pic from a recent frost...

This is Ightham Mote, the spooky medieval manor that inspired the setting of The Boy in the Burgundy Hood. It has circular scratches above the fireplace in the Great Hall to protect against witches. Do you have a favourite spooky house?

Fancy a short, sharp - and ultimately deeply chilling - read this weekend? Check out my novella, The Man in the Woods, on Amazon! ***** 'a finale that turns the story on its head' ***** 'I wanted to read it again straight after' ***** 'resonates with the dark places in your soul' #horror

Dreamy early morning walk at the local vineyard...

After failing to persuade any of my family, or even my aging middle-aged pals, to come with me, I went to see this alone yesterday. I am a huge Bob Dylan fan and it was a brilliant film. But it left me with an odd mix of emotion, much of it good, but also a profound sense of loss. Have you seen it?

Delighted to support @bookshop-org-uk.bsky.social's February initiative where they'll donate 10% of the sale of ANY children's books to children's reading charities @booktrust.org.uk & @scottishbooktrust.bsky.social. AND every sale supports independant bookshops too! #ReadItForward2025

Ambiguity in horror is such a powerful tool. Enjoyed this piece

Last day to grab The Secret of the Tirthas: Boxed Set for 99c/99p on Kindle, reduced from $6.99/£5.99! 😮 'Written for 10 years and up, I found it so imaginative & entertaining I can easily recommend it to adults who love fantasy as well' 'By far the best middle grade series I've read in a long time'

It's the penultimate day of my sale on the Boxed Set of The Secret of the Tirthas, my #YA adventure series - so here's a few of the places - and creatures - that inspired it! Check out The Secret of the Tirthas Boxed Set on Amazon now - it's just 99p/99c, reduced from £5.99 / $6.99!

This week I’m giving some love to my series The Secret of the Tirthas. Here’s me writing in the garden of rooms that inspired it. It was there, in the Gothic Garden, on the Edwardian Path, exploring Miss Day’s Garden, I imagined how it would be if each had a portal to a place inspired by its name...

A reminder you can get the Boxed Set of The Secret of the Tirthas for just 99p/99c on Kindle this week! That's all 5 of these delicious books!

Thank you!

My YA series The Secret of the Tirthas: Boxed Set is on sale for 99p/c on Kindle! That's a HUGE saving of £5/$6! Lizzie inherits a garden of rooms with portals to sacred places over the world - only to find a demonic killer is using them. What will she do? “A great read for children & adults alike”

Just had my first Kindle Deal nomination from Amazon, which is very exciting! #horror

A fabulously creepy pic of my book Alice & the Broken Dead from IG! A book increasingly mentioned for its pool scene in reviews: 'The swimming pool [scene] will remain with me always. It is sure to be considered one of the top contemporary, spookiest scenes ever' Intrigued? Check it out now! #horror

How do the ideas for your books come to you? Inspiration is a drip feed for me and an erratic one. I’m developing the storyline for the next Alice book. I have the setting, the mood, and some of the characters. I have some of the weirdness and scariness. But the detailed storyline is taking a while.

We went to Wisley Glow before Christmas, when the moon was almost full. These eerie shots - with no filter added - appealed to my gothic side...🌜👻

Thank you @juliablakeauthor for this fabulous (and 100th!) review of Alice and the Devil. Made my weekend! 😁

I forgot to share this post by Jack Finn before Christmas, but if you're a lover of festive ghost stories here's plenty to be going with. Jack's included my own, Black Beacon, & Beulah by Shani Struthers who wrote one of my favorite Xmas ghost stories, Carfax House. Beulah's on my list! Thanks Jack!

Pics from a recent misty walk at Wooton...

The latest book in The Ghosts of Alice series, Alice and the Broken Dead, has been receiving some great reviews since its release in November. Perfect for lovers of Stephen King, Michelle Paver and Shani Struthers, available on Amazon now!

Anyone else a fan of Robert Aickman? Just came across this excellent article on him: www.theguardian.com/books/booksb...

What a sunrise! 🌄 Temperature down to -5, which is about as nippy as it gets round here!

I got some very nice reviews for Black Beacon over Christmas - like this one! I've been told it's fine to read Christmas ghost stories after the season, so if your spooky festive feels (what!?) are still lingering, give it a go! 👻

So even in the south we got some - although it's all been washed away today by torrential rain! ❄️😁

This morning we visited our local National Trust property, Polesden Lacey (inspiration for my book The Lady in the Moon Moth Mask) because we didn't want to miss the Christmas displays. All I can say is WOW! Happy New Year to those of you who have already reached it! Any plans for the big night?

Did you get a new Kindle for Christmas? Fill it with something dark for the princely sum (see what I did there? 🤭) of 99p/99c - limited time only. THE SUM OF YOUR FLESH is a chilling, dark fiction, genre-blending novel with themes of persecution, loneliness, & atonement. mybook.to/SumofYourFlesh

Killjoys...😉

Looking for books to spend Xmas vouchers on? The Ghosts of Alice is the perfect bingeable series for the holidays: * terrifying ghosts * spooky old houses * sinister characters * hidden secrets and betrayals At the heart of each story is Alice Deaton, a woman with a mysterious connection to the dead

Back in the eerie forest again - but with others this time, so not quite so spooky! 😊😱

Seasons greetings from me and Santa in a bookshop! (A few years back, admittedly...) ✨🎄🧑‍🎄

Chocolate, snow and ghost stories... What more could you want for Christmas? ✨😉

I went for a walk alone yesterday in the woods as it was getting dark. I don't normally get spooked but yesterday I did (see my blog post for why!) Maybe after writing horror for years I've settled some deeper fears in my mind. Apparently most people don't like walking in the woods. What about you?

The nice reviews keep coming in for Alice and the Broken Dead, the latest book in The Ghosts of Alice series. Many thanks to all of you who have bought and read it - and especially to those who have rated and / or reviewed it. Your words and stars make authors like me very happy!

Hope it’s not too mean to say my second Christmas ghost story is in draft – but it won’t be out until next Christmas! 👻 Two strangers find themselves cut off in a snowstorm in an old castle in the Scottish Highlands at Christmas – with just some terrifying apparitions for company! What will happen?
