It is heartbreaking and distressing to witness the near elimination of our state’s Central Library, which has existed since territorial times to enrich our culture and serve as a research hub for our state’s residents. This will also have a significant impact at the Talking Book & Braille Library.

The Office of the Secretary of State delivered 47 at-risk of layoff letters over the past two weeks to Washington State Library. Read the full news release here: bit.ly/43b2Vvd

"Washington State Librarian Sara Jones told KUOW the cuts could amount to as much of a third of the State Library's budget — especially impacting rural and underserved communities." www.kuow.org/stories/wash... written by @katiecampbell.bsky.social.

"The loss of federal funding comes at a time of broader budget uncertainty as state lawmakers confront a gap between expected revenue and previously planned spending in the tens of billions of dollars over the next four years." www.heraldnet.com/opinion/edit...

The WA Talking Book & Braille Library is a statewide resource that serves those who can't read standard print in a way no other library does. Cuts to WTBBL, the Central Library, libraries in state prisons & hospitals, and library development team will be devastating. youtu.be/seUIDG5o1A8?...

New in the @columbian.com: Secretary of State Steve Hobbs was especially blunt in a video posted a couple days prior that also takes aim at the IMLS grant cancellation. “If last week was a s*** show,” Hobbs said in that reel, “this week was a four-alarm dumpster fire — filled with burning s***.”

Libraries ensure people have access to information at library locations across Washington. This commitment is rooted in the fundamental principle that an educated and informed citizenry is critical to a free society. That goal is not a partisan issue. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

President Trump's executive order on elections would have a negative and disproportionate impact on voters in rural Washington. That's one of several reasons we are challenging that order in court. www.npr.org/2025/04/08/n...

Washington elections are fair, secure, and accessible. President Trump's executive order on elections is a series of legally dubious policy demands that he created to sustain his fiction that he won the 2020 presidential election.

Cuts to federal funding threaten our election security, putting our democracy at risk. With election integrity on the line, we must take action to protect our vote and our future.

Nicole and I were down in Olympia the last couple of days for a meeting of the Tabletop Game Alliance of Washington State (a non-profit trade organization I'm the vice-president of) and a legislative game night hosted by our Secretary of State, Steve Hobbs. The pics are from the latter.

New story from KING 5 News: We must protect our libraries and librarians. Right now, many are at risk from ideological and DOGE-style federal cuts, and state and local budget cuts. Libraries are fundamental to informing a free society. www.king5.com/article/news...
