Excellent column by Bret Stephens summarizing the many ways that the absence of adult supervision in the Trump White House has produced one disaster after another. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/22/o...

Powerful lead editorial in today's NY Times by Thomas Friedman. "This whole Trump II administration is a cruel farce. Trump ran for another term...in order to stay out of jail and to get revenge on those who, with real evidence, had tried to hold him accountable to the law."

Trump is proposing to eliminate the scientific research division of NOAA, which would hobble early warning systems for natural disasters, scientific education for students, and the study of the Arctic. One more sign that we are dealing with a dangerously insane administration.

David Brooks (NY Times) on Trump's tariff policy: "I have never seen a policy as stupid as this one. It is based on false assumptions. It rests on no coherent argument in its favor. It relies on no empirical evidence...It is jumble-headedness exemplified," & has led to "predictable mayhem."

Just one day in the hideous Trump presidency: RFK's FDA layoffs will raise the nation's drug costs and erode food safety. That includes reduced inspections for deadly bacteria in food. CDC cutbacks further threaten public health, w/ fewer resources re: disease prevention. Deadly and evil.

David Brooks: "If America is still America, those tariffs will represent the turning point of the Trump presidency. People will be outraged by the useless economic pain they are causing; and, more subtly, revolted by the cowardly values they represent."

Every law firm that actually cares about the rule of law should stand up to support the firms opposing Trump's illegal efforts at intimidation and extortion. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/30/o...

With this ludicrous, self-humiliating Cabinet, it's just one fiasco after another. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/27/o...

The Signal scandal is just the tip of the iceberg. As detailed by Noah Shachtman, China is trying to recruit recently fired U.S. workers. Trump shut down a seven-agency effort to counter Russian sabotage and cyberattacks. These idiots' incompetence is making it easy for our enemies.

As today's NY Times editorial declares, America's great universities have the resources to stand up for academic freedom in the face of Trump's assault. The question is, do they have the courage to do what is right? www.nytimes.com/2025/03/25/o...

One of the key elements in American greatness has been our leadership in scientific research. Trump and DOGE are attempting to destroy that. It's as if they want the U.S. to just give up, and let China assume dominance. This is simply nuts. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/24/h...

The Republicans' latest outrageous scam, which would completely pervert the process of budget-making. "It's like getting an F on an assignment, but then the teacher applies a curve" so your paper says you passed. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
