#PentecostSunday

It is Pentecost. May our hearts be open to the border-opening Spirit of God. #AuthenticPopeLeoXIVQuote (his words below—the words above are mine) www.vatican.va/content/leo-...

This is not OK. Whatever one may think about deploying the National Guard in this circumstance, that’s not what Hegseth is referencing. Lord, have mercy upon us.

Remembering Dr. Brueggemann's excellent Pastors' School lectures at Gardner-Webb University School of Divinity in 2012 applying biblical perspectives on empire to its American instantiation, with much relevance for our present moment.

Yunseo Chung is a lawful US resident who’s not lived in South Korea since she was 7. Valedictorian of her high school class. English major with 3.99 GPA. ICE seeks to deport her for voicing the same perspective on the modern state of Israel’s unjust treatment of Palestinians that I have voiced.

It was good to participate in the program of the 2025 Pastors’ Conference offered by Gardner-Webb University School of Divinity today.

It was not a competitive category at the (Catholic) College Theology Society convention—but I did finish ahead of an Episcopalian. 😉

Baptist friends throughout the world: Has the leader of your Baptist union, convention, association, or church issued a statement on the election of Pope Leo XIV? Let me know about it for an article I'm writing on Baptist responses to the papal election. Links appreciated! (Photo ©Vatican Media)

Here's my new Vatican Dispatch for @goodfaithmedia.bsky.social, reflecting on the challenges Pope Leo XIV will face early in his pontificate. goodfaithmedia.org/vatican-disp...

Here's my final dispatch from Rome before heading home. I'll have more commentary on the beginnings of Pope Leo XIV's pontificate and its larger context tomorrow at @goodfaithmedia.bsky.social. goodfaithmedia.org/vatican-disp...

In light of some things I’m seeing shared on social media, passing this along from the conclusion of one of my recent articles for @goodfaithmedia.bsky.social, linked here: goodfaithmedia.org/vatican-disp...

@stevenrharmon.bsky.social: The event was not a press conference. Instead, it was an opportunity for the new pope to address the media, thank us for our coverage of the events, and share his thoughts about journalists’ roles and responsibilities. ow.ly/8MyC50VRKwL

Yesterday I enjoyed a good on-air conversation from Rome with Jeff Hamlin of WPTF in Raleigh, NC. Here’s a podcast version of it. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/w...

Here's my latest from Rome for @goodfaithmedia.bsky.social. I think this one is really important--and not because of my own words in it. goodfaithmedia.org/pope-leo-spe...

At the end of our audience for journalists with Pope Leo XIV yesterday, he greeted some members of the press pool who were seated at the front. His longest conversation was with NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt, who shared his experience with viewers: youtu.be/a7Ty3zc6kFc?...

I forgot to let my NC Triangle-area friends know in advance, but I was just interviewed live from Rome at 4:20 PM Eastern about Pope Leo XIV on Jeff Hamlin's 4:00 news hour program on radio station WPTF (92.9 FM). They'll have arrived audio up in podcast form later.

Today the one thing my wife said she wanted me to try to do in Rome in my journalistic side hustle happened.

I was in St. Peter’s Square today for Pope Leo XIV’s Regina Caeli address at noon from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica. He spoke in Italian, and the press will later receive an English translation. But I did understand his shout-out to “Dallas, Texas”!

Yesterday about three hours after I visited the tomb of Pope Francis and returned to the press office, Pope Leo XIV also made a visit to the tomb (photo courtesy of Vatican Media).

1/3 Yesterday I made a pilgrimage to the tomb of Pope Francis in the Basilica of St. Mary Maggiore. I thanked God for his life and ministry, and I prayed that I and all of us might receive more fully the way he exemplified and taught the way of Jesus.

Just before my interview with the Birmingham CBS affiliate yesterday, I gave an interview to Spectrum News in Charlotte. spectrumlocalnews.com/nc/charlotte...

I appeared briefly from Rome in this news segment for the Birmingham, Alabama CBS affiliate yesterday. www.cbs42.com/news/birming...

Here are my initial reflections for @goodfaithmedia.bsky.social on hints about the direction of Pope Leo XIV's papacy in his choice of a name and address following his election. I'll have more to share after his audience with journalists on Monday. goodfaithmedia.org/pope-leo-xiv...

On the morning the conclave began, I interviewed two ecumenical friends who lead the Centro Pro Unione, Fr. James Loughran & Teresa Rossi, for @goodfaithmedia.bsky.social about their work, experiences in dialogue, & perspectives on the ecumenical significance of the papacy. youtu.be/LWwM_Cb7-IA?...
