Germany’s likely new chancellor Friedrich Merz: Look at what Musk has done recently in terms of interventions in the German elections. That is an unprecedented event. The interventions from Washington were no less dramatic, drastic and ultimately brazen than the interventions we had from Moscow...

Another angle to this that supports the boredom theory is the large number of Facebook boomers who fall into these conspiracy theory channels. Many are presumably recently retired and don’t know what to do with themselves.

The fascist right*

Coming around to the view that a certain kind of narcissist simply needs Musk to be a genius rather than a fraud, because they want to believe there’s a hereditary Brahmin class of accomplished, beautiful minds—and that they’re a part of that class.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Also if you feel strongly about Eric Adams, you should call your city councilmember to express that and ask for their position. You’d be surprised. Hochul’s stance is highly disappointing but it doesn’t come from nowhere. Press all your electeds. City elections are in 5 months. Ask candidates too.

When does this lunatic get stopped?

This is the best summary of the current geopolitical situation I have seen. Sir Alex Younger (head of MI6 from 2014-2020) is a genuine expert and provides concise insight into a complex situation. Not just some talking head with an opinion. Really worth watching. www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9pL...

They really took that “alternative facts” seriously

Folks who have gone to multiple Trump rallies know Trump tells this story about “Raizin” Caine and ISIS. It reveals something: Trump usually tells it to say a lot of generals didn’t think they could implement his plans but he says Caine could and did. It shows Caine is HIS guy.

If any of our former NATO or Five Eyes allies have intelligence data and assessments, which surely they must, about the background of the leader of their new strategic adversary, the United States, now is as good a time as any to release them, subject to protection of methods and sources, of course.

You can literally picture a NYT journalist writing an article from a jail cell bc Trump didn’t like something they said and they’d give it this headline: “Life inside a corrections facility: how our journalist is navigating Trump’s updates to free speech issues in the US”

You know what’s coming. Even tho these town halls are in heavily Republican districts they’re gonna say “Dems are rigging them & having their people show up to disrupt” as an excuse.

Welp, I thought he was smart but I guess I was wrong.

Idiocracy was a documentary

... while running the Spread Christianity offense.

Imagine being too far-right and Nazi-like for the French far-right: "French far-right leader cancels US speech after ex Trump aide Bannon appeared to make 'Nazi gesture'"

So now what? They’re defying court orders. Now what?

This would be completely illegal. But you wouldn’t know that from reading this post, the headline, or the lede. Unbelievably bad.

"We [the Executive Branch] *are* the federal law" is a dark horse candidate for most Hitlerian Trump quote from 2025. Surprised this did not get even more media coverage and provoke even more outrage. The literal, actual truth, of course, is that the federal government has three co-equal branches.

This is how it’s done.

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

People make excuses for this, but there's an extraordinary lack of civic virtue in this country.

With national events moving fast and in a threatening direction, we’re beyond the range of experience of any living person. A primer for scientists (and everyone) on why it’s not just politics - and seven ways to act, locally: samwang.substack.com/p/an-action-...

Would that include use of the military against civilians?

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

Continues to boggle my mind why people vote the way they do.

Don’t bow down to the dictator? He’ll seek “justice” against you!

Lawless

Trump pardoned the sentence of arguably the single biggest drug trafficker in American history on his second day in office!

When the far right in France is calling you out for being too Nazi, you might just be a Nazi: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

the German guy that owns Politico just praised JD Vance and is famous for saying to people to pray for Trump. Why do we take this publication seriously

Now why do you think it is that DOJ dismissed charges against SpaceX WITH prejudice but Emil Bove plans to hold charges over Eric Adams' head for almost four more years? www.nytimes.com/2025/02/20/u...

How stupid can people be? There is no way AFTER what he did for 4 yrs you thought he'd fine tune government this time. Just admit you hated the Black lady and figured you'd be OK.

Russiagate is a theory the way gravity is a theory

They’re not going to listen. Hold them in contempt.

"I think there's real risk of a generation or more of data being lost." - Dr. Michael Greicius, neurology professor at Stanford University, on the damage Trump's cuts to NIH research will do to progress on a treatment for Alzheimer's disease, adding as much as 20 years to the timeline.

"I can no longer be a part of what we can all plainly see is happening to our country." Somebody should collect these incredible resignation letters and make them a book. This one is from Nate Brought, resigning as director of the NIH Executive Secretariat. www.linkedin.com/posts/nathan...

Rule of law is dead part 1 million

“Provocative gesture” lol Nazi salute. It was a Nazi salute.

LITERALLY EVERY FBI DIRECTOR HAS BEEN A REPUBLICAN. EVERY SINGLE ONE.

You’ll win, but he won’t care.

Make Nazis afraid to salute in public again

More of this. Do not give in.

Wow. @maddow.msnbc.com thank you for saying the truth, that the current regime is not governing, they are trying to replace the current form of government with something else, and in order to do it, they have to move FAST. That’s exactly it. The frame in which we talk about this crisis is crucial.

They are everything they claimed Democrats to be. Their psychological tell is projection.

This isn’t funny. He’s not kidding. He will try to illegally stay. He & Republicans are marching us down a path toward civil conflict.
