When I’m Sixty-Four by The Beatles would be the theme tune to Pixar’s Up, if Up was a happier story #filmsky #pixar #thebeatles

Maxxxine - A superbly stylish end to Tye West X trilogy. Sadly the ending lets the film down but Mia Goth is excellent. A tense stalker story with an uninspiring conclusion. #film #filmsky #horror

Kill - A hyper violent Indian thriller. A fight to the death that once it starts, never lets up. It only stops for breath to allow an awesome title card and for our super soldier hero to grandstand with his top off. Superb #film #filmsky #cinema

A Quiet Place Day One - At the start of an apocalypse, a man and woman must make their way through New York, avoiding the detection of invading aliens. Who are armed with super sensitive, yet occasionally selective hearing. A decent prequel. #film #filmsky #horror #cinema

Kinds of Kindness - So soon after the last? 3 separate tragedies, each as messed up as the last. Never quite reaches the Poor Things heights, but features a heavy cast all putting a shift in. #film #filmsky #cinema

Something In The Water - A shark movie where the shark barely put in an appearance. A truly intolerable group of friends come under attack on the eve of one friends wedding. Just awful unfortunately. Goreless #film #filmsky #horror #cinema

The Bikeriders - The engaging tale of a young man who joins a motorbike gang, exploring the relationship with the gang leader, played by Tom Hardy, who is perhaps guilty of overacting at times. Jodie Comer is superb though. #film #filmsky #cinema

Watchers - I actually quite enjoyed this. There’s decent tension. It has a (somewhat predictable) Shyamalan twist. And a steady lead performance. Not bad for a debut. #film #filmsky #horror #cinema

Sting - This fucker should been introduced to the back of someone’s flip flop before it had the chance to do any real damage. Space spiders are potential nightmare fuel for some. Spider crosses the line when it goes after the dog. Poor overall #film #filmsky #horror #cinema

Furiosa - The main thing I remember about this was hating Hemsworths accent. Which probably speaks to how underwhelming the film is. As expected Anya was great though. Stunning in Imax as well #film #filmsky #cinema

Strangers Chapter 1 - Oh to be this blissfully unaware. Cat and mouse thriller in which a couple fight to survive against masked intruders. The fact that they were placed there rather than just being there somewhat takes the edge of it though #film #filmsky #horror #cinema

La Chimera - A melancholy dressed glory. A professional grave robber returns home to search for a lost love he’ll never find. Truly stunning, right up there with best of the year #film #filmsky #cinema

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - A reasonably serviceable blockbuster, but with a plot hole the size of a hole in the back of a heavily guarded military facility only the good guy Apes seem to know about #film #filmsky #cinema

Tarot - The first kill in this movie is by a pair of demon ladders and this sets the tone nicely for this utterly uninspiring and predictable horror. Even the clown doll isn’t much cop. #film #filmsky #horror #cinema

Fall Guy - You’d have thought a former stunt guy would have made a better movie about stunt guys. Poor overall. Managed to make Ryan Gisling look uncool.

Love Lies Bleeding - Who’d have two lesbian gangster films in such a short space of time? A film that made me feel bad about my own gym gains more than anything else. That woman got BIG #film #filmsky #cinema

Abigail - A fun but relatively flightless horror movie. Some decent comedy, a good light hearted watch. Decent enough but don’t expect anything special. #film #filmsky #cinema #horror

Civil War - A film following photographers and journalists as they follow a fictional Civil War. Valid at a time when journalists are under extreme scrutiny. Jesse Plemons brief cameo is the highlight. He creates a glorious tension. #film #filmsky #cinema

Monkey Man - Dev Patel makes James Bond look like a gentleman detective in this stunningly choreographed take down of India’s ruling political party. A blood soaked adrenaline fueled thrill ride from the go that rarely lets up. #film #filmsky #cinema

Evil Does Not Exist - A small community comes together when a proposed glancing site threatens their access to clean water. A curious girl goes missing in the local woodlands. A truly bizarre ending. Recommend it. #film #filmsky #cinema

Immaculate - A pleasantly surprising horror film that doesn’t overly rely on supernatural elements. A slow suspenseful build and a human horror. Sweeney was great. The ending was wild as fuck. Fair play. #cinema #film #filmsky #horror

Monster - Latest from the mighty Kore-Eda Hirokazu. The same story told from three different perspectives in this coming of age tale. A story of young friendship and love with an accusation of abuse against a teacher. Simply superb story telling. #film #filmsky #cinema

Late Night With The Devil - Stylish and superb horror movie. A late night TV show host tries desperately to save his career by interviewing the devil. Dastmalchian is glorious. The possessed girl is wonderfully frightening. Excellent. #film #filmsky #cinema #horror

Origin - A film exploring the link between racism and caste that if I’m honest, I’m in no way intelligent enough to speak about

Drive-Away Dolls - A lesbian crime caper that sounds classic Coen, but doesn’t quite deliver. It’s funny, especially the goons but lacking in good story telling. #film #filmsky #cinema

Imaginary - A scary teddy bear is never going to cause much of a stir. Young teen friendly horror. Hated the fake out ending. Feel like they hoped Chauncey would be as a big a viral hit as M3GAN. It wasn’t. #film #filmsky #cinema

Dune Part Two - A stunning achievement in world building and a sci fi epic. Chalamet by far exceeded what I expected from him. All around great performances. A big step up from the first movie. #film #filmsky #cinema

Perfect Days - Literally a film about a man in Japan cleaning toilets for a living. A film with such tenderness and natural beauty. It’s hard not to get swept in up in the feel good and appreciate the little things in life #film #filmsky #cinema

The Iron Claw - A deeply moving story of brothers who want nothing more than to do what they love together, but their relationship is strained by the pressure of their father and injuries suffered wrestling. A glorious film. #film #cinema

Baghead - It’s a woman with a bag on her head, what do you want me to say? A pub filtered to look dim. Scare free horror. Just awful. #film #cinema

The Zone Of Interest - A truly stunning and harrowing film about how boring it is to be evil. The distant noise throughout as they just live their lives is unforgettable. Will probably end up being the best of 2024. #film #cinema

American Fiction - A film about an author pretending to be more gangster than he is, but it’s also about so much more. Jeffrey Wright and Sterling K Brown are exceptional. A wonderful movie. #film #cinema

Argylle - A much anticipated film that turned in to a huge mess. A dull twist and uninspiring performances all around

The Holderovers - A fantastic and moving film about a young man left alone with his teacher at Christmas. Felt a little out of place with its January UK release date though

Poor Things - A controversial but superb film, Emma Stone is an absolute whirlwind in this. A truly relentless and superb performance, well worthy of her Oscar win. The first great UK release of 2024.

Night Swim - How scary can you realistically expect a film about a haunted swimming pool to be? Especially one released in January. The pool possesses others to murder, and the film certainly lives up to its lack of potential. Poor. #film #cinema

The first film I saw in cinema this year was Priscilla. Cailee Spaeny was superb, but that’s probably the extent of my praise for this. Controversial but I think I preferred the other Elvis movie. #film #cinema
