If you get inside your wheelie bin during Storm Eowyn, you’ve got yourself a free Segway.

Phew! Was just about to send a Christmas Card to the old address.

A pleasant afternoon tasting beers at Epochal as part of their festive drop-in. Cool to see their Burton Union system in place (real heritage there!) Nice setting by a canal. (And it was light when I went in.)

A book can title can only only intrigue me for so many years. I’m going in. #booksky #horrorsky

This review of Mark Z. Danielewski’s ‘House of Leaves’ amused me. Guy seems to think the varied styles are some sort of scam.

In the post: two books from @swanriverpress.bsky.social

When did libraries give up the ‘Quiet, please!’ mentality and adopt an acoustic singalong? Went to local for peace to write and now folk are blasting out Scott McKenzie’s ‘If you’re going to San Francisco.’, which I’m not. 🤷‍♂️

Just finished reading Trilogy by Jon Fosse Three historical novellas (2007, 2012, and 2014) exploring the circularity of life and the trappings of fate as young lovers Asle and Alida search for a place to call home. Definitely works better as a whole. #books #nobelprizeinliterature #justread

A frosty one today.

The Book of Mormon is coming to Glasgow. Been wanting to see it for a while. Rather cool to see a theatre booking tool offer a photo of the view from the seat. New one on me.

First film of 2024 that I liked #filmsky was ‘How to Have Sex’, watched on 1st Jan. [Favourite of whole year (so far) was The Substance]

‘Lucan’, the documentary currently on BBC iPlayer about the son of the murdered nanny looking for Lucan goes to some random places. More a study of one man’s later life consumed by a need to locate the missing lord. Lots of side dramas, its own mystery, and a completely left field conclusion.

I can understand books fetching a hefty price, but £130 markup on eBay for a book that you can still get from the publisher for £50. Not even a sub-25 numbering. 🤷‍♂️

In the post. Niche booklet on the subject of Cumbrian legend, the Croglin Vampire. Looking forward to dipping into this soon.

Happy to report that all the pages are not stuck together.

Glad Samantha Harvey’s Orbital has won the Booker. Although it’s the only one from the long list that I read, I really enjoyed it. (And it means I need not bother with the others I had in reserve. 🙂).

BluRay arrival. All the Haunts be Ours, the second volume of folk horror from Severin Films. And this ones comes with an accompanying book of short stories.

I’ve never read Will Self (though I do have his The Book of Dave on the shelves) but this review convinces me I’m not missing out.
