It's been a busy half term of school visits: we are grateful to the nine schools who have welcomed us and to the 13 project participants who have shared their stories at one or more of these encounters. Thank you, all, for the hope you give us for the future!

We loved visiting your school and were very impressed by your thoughtful reflections, your interesting questions, your empathy and your compassion. Well done and thank you everyone!

We did two wonderful school visits this week, meeting year 7 at Edmund Campion Catholic School and everyone at Warton Nethersole Primary school. We were so appreciative of the warm welcome and so impressed by the empathy and compassion we saw from all of you!

Sorry! We are having email issues! Please send a message here or use our gmail address not the storiesofhome.org.uk one while we resolve the problem!

We really enjoyed our visit to ChristChurch CofE school earlier this week! Thank you so much for having us and for engaging so thoughtfully with our stories. We were very impressed by the empathy and compassion you all showed. @brumschofsanctuary.bsky.social

We have decided that we will shortly be leaving X. This is not a decision we have reached easily or lightly. In the past it has been a valuable way for us to communicate our work and connect with communities. Please do read our statement about why we have made this decision.

We are looking for volunteers for our Youth Hub on a Thursday 2-5pm in Sparkhill. We need volunteers to help us run our sessions, offer activities and provide welcome and compassion. Find out more here: birchnetwork.org/get-involved/ #refugees

ርሑስ በዓል ልደትን ሓድሽ ዓመትን።! መልካም ገና! С Рождеством Христовым! Merry Christmas to our Eritrean and ethiopian friends and all those celebrating today!

As we enter 2025, asylum seekers like Joyce are still banned from working, forbidden from using their skills or supporting their families while they apply for sanctuary in the UK. It's long past time to #LiftTheBan so people seeking safety can share their skills with their communities.

What a wonderful way to start the year! Our first visit of 2025 took us to share stories with staff at St John Fisher, Oxford. Thank you for your welcome and your engagement. We look forward to seeing where your journey of 'welcoming the stranger' takes your school community next.

We think there are lots of things we are very good at. Asking for money isn't one of them. But it's a new year, and perhaps some of you are making a new year's resolution to support a charity, so just in case, we thought we'd invite you to consider us!

Quick change of decor from Christmas to birthday ... one of our participants recently told us she'd NEVER had a birthday party so we fixed it! Cake, dancing, and so much food! Most importantly... "Thank you everyone. You give me hope", which is, really what it is all about.

Christmas Dinner for 40 ✅️ Homemade cake and Eritrean coffee✅️ Hilariously competitive Pass the Parcel✅️ A visit from Mother Christmas✅️ Being together for a day filled with laughter and love✅️ Creating a family✅️ Merry Christmas everyone!

Some of us have had a lovely afternoon at ThinkTank. Thank you! The staff were really helpful and as always we were made to feel very welcome. A great pre-Christmas treat!

Right now, Christmas cards crafted by a group of talented campaigners in Birmingham are making their way to local MPs, asking for a very simple gift this Christmas: the right to work. #LiftTheBan

Today was our last visit of the year to Birmingham Botanical Gardens. We are so grateful for the hospitality and the knowledge you have shared with us over many visits, and look forward to continuing to work together in 2025!

This International Migrants Day, let's celebrate the people who move, bringing their cultures, skills and selves to their new communities. And let's keep fighting to make sure that every migrant, but especially those forced to move for their own safety, is valued and protected.

“Sometimes all it takes is a small act of love” To celebrate #InternationalMigrantsDay, our performance of ‘Love is a Rebellion’ is now available on Birmingham REP's YouTube Channel: bit.ly/4gmcRHL We are very grateful to the REP for all the support and opportunities they give us. Do take a look!

Birmingham Schools of Sanctuary end-of-term newsletter is now available! cdn.cityofsanctuary.org/uploads/site...

Thank you to the Kenelm Youth Trust for the warm welcome for our final visit of 2024. It was great to share stories, conversation and reflection with you and the team from the Briars. We know you will go on to educate and inspire so many young people about what it means to welcome the stranger.

We are also a signatory to this letter. In the midst of their uncertainty, apprehension, and tentative hope, the last thing our Syrian friends need is to be thrown into further limbo.

After all the fun of Bear Hunts and Elephant Hunts in the summer, on Friday we braved the weather for a Reindeer Hunt and found all of #BrumsReindeer

Our song "Love is how we Rebel" now has synced lyrics on YouTube music and Spotify so you can all sing along! music.youtube.com/watch?v=5NNw... open.spotify.com/track/5zvkSl...

As the holiday season approaches, we’re excited to share the Right to Remain Seasonal Gift Guide—a reflection of our commitment to building solidarity and the importance of building connections and relationships🎁🎁 Shop using the link below! righttoremain.org.uk/right-to-rem...

Too often, people seeking sanctuary are denied the most basic of rights, rights which everyone should be able to take for granted. This #HumanRightsDay, and every day, we must keep reminding one another that ALL human beings deserve equality, dignity, rights and freedom.

This holiday season thousands of children across the country will go without a home cooked meal. Join us in asking for change. themagpieproject.org/hope-for-a-h... #hungrychristmas #Allourchildren #Nochildwithoutakitchen

🚨 Only half of the Government’s recent asylum decisions has met its own internal quality checks. Poor quality decisions cause huge harm to already vulnerable individuals. The Government must urgently prioritise quality, as well as speed. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024... 1/2

Thank you to the children from St Vincent's School for our lovely messages. They really brightened up a dreary day! We really enjoyed meeting you all and writing poetry together.

We had a wonderful couple of days with year 12 students from St Mary's Chesterfield. Thank you for engaging so thoughtfully. As we said to you "you are our voice, you are our hope, you are the future"

We were very impressed with the young people from Thomas Becket School who we met a few weeks ago. Last Friday some of them braved the elements to sleep out, showing solidarity with all those who don't have a roof over their heads and raising funds for us and for a local homeless charity

We had another great session at the botanical gardens yesterday: the gardens were looking stunning with the remnants of the snow sparking in the winter sunlight. We're learning some of the science of trees, but also that there are some things which can only be expressed through poetry.

No hate, no fear: refugees are welcome here 🧡

It was a privilege to be part of this event. Thank you for the wisdom and insights shared, and creating a space where solidarity was so very much in evidence. Because it is together that we will create the communities we want to see!

So here we are, trying out another social media platform, wondering if this is, in fact, the place to be!
