Welp.. the kids get a "snow day" tomorrow due to the cold. It's a little sad because I remember waking up to go see if school was cancelled... Now they know the night before. Better overall, but I believe that rush of joy of a snow day is lost.

Minneapolis Airport was officially at or below 0F from about 8pm on the 18th through 1pm on the 21st. Looks like the lowest air temperature was -19F. Lowest wind chill I saw was -39F (only one degree away from not needing units!) Just a brutal stretch of cold. But not even close to record cold.

Sorry about the lack of updates to tomorrow's snow.. been fighting a bad sinus infection. AM commute could be slick with snow starting 1-2am. General totals in the 4-7" range, highest northeast. Tapering down after PM rush. Been well advertised so I think the DOTs will have a good plan. Be safe!

Quick thoughts on the upcoming snow for the MSP Metro... Tuesday should just be nuisance snow. Should be enough to shovel or clear, but not much beyond that. Thursday looks trickier. dProg/dT from the SREF isn't helpful... Sig snow could focus just north of the Metro.. will have to watch.

Road report from West Saint Paul.. streets are slushy. Sidewalks have decent traction with some pellets on the ground. The freezing drizzle that's falling now will progressively make things slick around the metro. If the DOT have treatment down, it shouldn't be too bad. Sidewalks may be very slick.

MSP wx update: Expect pavements to fall below freezing btwn 7-8pm. Precip should be wrapping up by 9pm. Some icy spots likely. If MNDOT has treated impacts should be minimal.. but could be some tricky side streets.

I think tomorrow's snow in the MSP metro could be interesting.. snowboard measurement might be towards that 1" mark, but sub surface temps are still in the upper 30s and low 40s. If I had to forecast though.. pavements will be slick in spots but that'll be about it.. mainly overpasses. Off'l: 1"
