Any talk you hear from the current administration about making the US more competitive in science and technology is utter bullshit. What they are doing is sabotaging our country for years if not decades to come.

"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" by Gil Scott-Heron Album: "Pieces of a Man" Time: 8:46 pm

I chose my career — as a (very) small cog in the academic machine — because I believed (and really, still do despite the many problems) in the fundamental power of knowledge discovery and dissemination to improve people’s lives. I’m terrified and angry about where we are right now.

Canada gets the guest room ready.

So, uh, will Canada take us in? And by “us” I mean all of Minnesota.

Feeling pretty indulgent after scrambling three whole eggs for dinner.

Hey Skybrarians! Here's a fab new starter pack of cataloging and metadata folks! 📚

Dreamed last night that I was out for dinner with a certain unelected dipshit oligarch and like 8 other people, and he made us divide up the tab item by item and each pay for our own. So I guess my brain is working through some stuff.

The thing about these unreasonably cold temperatures (-10F in my backyard this morning) is that they come with bright sun and clear blue skies. Feels so much better than the endless foggy gray of late December, when temps were in the 30s.

Temps dropping below zero and the power’s out. This is fine.

I’m thinking the household canines are gonna have to do without their 10 PM walk the next few days. May dog have mercy on my rugs.

Went to the Art Shanties today. This is a cat shanty where you dress like a cat and knock things off shelves.
