As someone who's recently gotten heavy into composting, no one can ever have my empire of dirt. It's extremely important to me. I'm keeping it until I die and then I intend to be buried in it.

When making music, don't try to please other people. If other people like your music, great, but it's not worth altering your vision to capture their approval. Instead of aiming for the imagined expectations of your peers or audience, you should try to make music that pleases streaming algorithms.

The only reason I can think of that an artist would want to perform in complete darkness is if they are planning to make very rude gestures at the audience without anyone knowing about it.

At a no-input mixer event, there should always be an independent referee to make sure that none of the performers are using any inputs.

Nobody believes tapes will return as a widely used format, but the regularly announced Cassette Comeback is important because it provides ideological cover for what might otherwise be considered deviant or possibly even dangerous behavior.

I respect aleatoric music because it doesn't need constant help to become composed. It just gets on with making itself music. It doesn't require endless support or handouts and when aleatoric music is successful, it got there by pulling itself up by the bootstraps. And I think that's pretty cool.

OUT TODAY! Turmeric Acid y Bardo Todol - Sonopædia A Borgesian audio-tome produced using musique concrète techniques, field samples and the human voice (in both Polish and Spanish), transforming encyclopaedic topics into sonic experiences. 📚 strategictapereserve.bandcamp.com/album/sonop-...

I refuse to believe in the possibility of non-diagetic music in movies. Anytime you hear music in a film, at least one of the characters is listening to it, or maybe even making it using a keyboard-workstation or something off screen.

One really cool feature of Spotify For Artists is if you pay them an additional 16.99€ per month, they will burn your music onto a CDR, throw it on the floor and spit on it.

Working on an economic concept I'm calling "the free market", which is basically this big market, but instead of having to buy the stuff, it's all for free.

Brian Eno's "Ambient 1" only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it went on to start an airport.

Before buying a cassette, check its dimensions to make sure it will fit in your deck. They should be something like 6,5cm x 10cm x 1cm (h/w/d). If the specifications deviate significantly from that, or worse still, aren't provided by the label, we would advise extreme caution.

Music derives its market value (quality) from how few people have heard it. Music that has never been heard by anyone is highly sought after and commands a high price. But as soon as one person, even its maker, hears it, depreciation begins and after 1000 or so listeners, it is basically worthless.

sent out press release for my new album today - let me know if u got it, and if you didnt but want it let me know too pic is logo i made for my label

About 10 years ago, I had a gig in Freiburg and time to kill in the early evening before it started, so we went into a supermarket where they were giving out free samples of Tete de Moine cheese and I ate a WHOLE LOT of it, massive amount, which might seem a questionable idea before playing music.

People sometimes claim that experimental music is hard to relate to, but that's bullshit. Who hasn't sat in a room? You never thought it was gonna rain?

A tape release where inside the norelco case, there's a cassette-sized slab of halloumi that you play by eating to enjoy its squeaky music against your teeth.

A "triple-double" is recorded when a noise artist has at least: 10 power adapters, 10 painful feedback swells, and 10 people in the audience.

In the past, most synthesizer music was set in the future, but nowadays, most of it is set in the present or the past. This is not necessarily a bad thing and probably natural, but we now lack an instrument which ekoves the future, so we should think about nominating a new one.

No line in the post office this afternoon. Not that I mind waiting, but it makes the day feel special when you don't have to. I took a number anyway, because if you don't take a number, that messes up their system, and that's not how I like to behave myself when I'm in a post office.

When I describe STR as a "serious tape label", I don't mean to imply that we are on some way important or maybe only interested in complicated, weighty topics. I simply mean that we don't get jokes. We don't find them funny and we would very much prefer if people refrained from making them.

Just an almond tree letting loose with some almond tree flowers

For me, the most unforgivable trait in a band is if they have Here We Come A-Wassailing energy. A lot of otherwise acceptable bands have it, and I just can't get past that vibe.

Just learned that electronic music is 30 years old today. Let's hope it keeps going for another 30!
