ICYMI, the Mayors proposed budget is going to devastate LADOT and Bureau of Street Services. Expect many more broken streets and sidewalks, new safety projects to be delayed, and streetlight repairs will be paused until 2027. Read our analysis: www.streetsforall.org/blog/las-dir...

This program is at risk with the Mayor's proposed budget, despite it likely raising ~$5M for the city -> "In the second month of enforcement, automated cameras on two Metro bus routes issued more than 9,700 tickets to cars parked in a bus lane or at a bus stop" laist.com/news/transpo...

The Mayor’s proposed budget is a disaster for street safety. It will result in worse sidewalks, worse pavement condition, no new road safety projects, and may even lead to the end of popular events like CicLAvia. Make your voice heard! mailchi.mp/streetsforal...

âś… PASSED SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE: SB 445 by @scottwiener.bsky.social that streamlines permit approval process for transit projects to tackle cities that cause costly delay against transit.

Yesterday, Traci Park and John Lee, two of LA's worst CMs for street safety projects, tried to introduce an amendment that would have made it more difficult for LADOT to remove peak-hour lanes, which make streets more dangerous for all. Thankfully, Nithya and Hugo spoke up, and they were defeated!

“Additionally, nearly half (42%) of Gen Z drivers admit to watching online videos while driving, and over a third (37%) confess to scrolling social media while behind the wheel” No amount of infrastructure can keep people safe if everyone is this distracted. www.foxla.com/news/distrac...

âś… PASSED SENATE HOUSING COMMITTEE: SB 79 by @scottwiener.bsky.social that would end the exclusionary housing policies that have made housing more expensive and transit inaccessible, allowing more people to live within walking distance of quality transit and boosting ridership for our transit systems

âś… PASSED SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE: SB 445 by @scottwiener.bsky.social that streamlines permit approval process for transit projects to tackle cities that cause costly delay against transit.

âś… PASSED ASSEMBLY TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE: AB 382 by @asmmarcberman.bsky.social that reduces school zone speed limits and sets parameters around their hours and locations.

This year we are sponsoring a housing bill – SB 79 by Senator Wiener. Why are we, Streets For All, getting in the housing space? Because this bill is vital for our transportation system. 🧵(1/10)

“Cyclists aren’t unique species; they’re people who decide to bike instead of [drive]. Estimating the demand for an unbuilt bike lane by counting the riders on dangerous roadways is like planning a bridge by estimating the people swimming across a river” www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Andrew Jelmert was hit and killed on April 16, 2022 biking on Crystal Springs Dr in Griffith Park. Three years later and few safety measures have been implemented. Demand action by joining SAFE on April 19. bit.ly/42aFCm9

"records reveal a state so concerned with people having access to vehicles that it allows deadly drivers on our roads despite the cost. Officials call driving a privilege but they treat it as a right — failing to take licenses even after they kill someone" calmatters.org/investigatio...

Caltrans released a draft of the PCH Master Plan for a public review period. While the current plan includes some protected bike lanes, there will be a large gap! Tell Caltrans we need protected bike lanes down ALL of PCH! Learn more: mailchi.mp/streetsforal...

Here is our Neighborhood Council endorsement for Little Tokyo! This candidate supports safe, multimodal transportation in Los Angeles. Be sure to request your ballot by April 14 and vote by April 22. For more, click here: www.streetsforall.org/2025-neighbo...

The City Administrative Officer is recommending a $2M cut to LADOT's funds to implement mobility plan streets, and cutting funding for curb ramps nearly in half. This will further slow progress for HLA implementation and safer streets.

Today Joe Linton of Streetsblog LA filed a lawsuit to force HLA compliance on Vermont and other LA city streets (and other Metro projects) and eliminate the mandatory administrative appeals process. We support this action – we simply want safe streets. www.streetsforall.org/blog/first-h...

Tonight we hosted Randall Winston, Deputy Mayor for Infrastructure, City of Los Angeles, on Happy Hour. We discussed the Olympics, city budget, HLA compliance, and how to get better results faster in the city. Thanks for the time, Randall! youtu.be/QjeyyvwkaD4

Definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results.

"exposure to increased air & noise pollution leads to increased risk for lung disease, heart problems, premature birth, respiratory diseases, neurological disorders, & more Highways block social connections between communities. A new study shows just how much." www.fastcompany.com/91308597/her...

We’re hosting an April member’s event in Culver City! If you’re a member, come celebrate the start of spring with Streets For All. Not a member? No sweat! There’s still time to join streetsforall.org/membersclub

Paris quickly becoming the most livable city "65% of them support a plan to pedestrianize another 500 streets, bringing the total of such streets to 700, a little more than 10% of the city total. The move will result in the loss of 10,000 parking spots." www.reuters.com/world/europe...

Totally normal LA headline. We don’t have to live like this.

LA’s neighborhood councils are the closest form of government to the people and it’s election season! We’re endorsing soon in areas like Little Tokyo, DTLA, Wilshire Center-Koreatown, and more. If you are a candidate & wish to apply for our endorsement, go here: www.streetsforall.org/2025-neighbo...

Today John Lee and Traci Park introduced a resolution trying to get the City of Los Angeles to lobby against SB-79, our sponsored bill with @scottwiener.bsky.social trying to make it easier to build more homes around transit, arguing we need to “preserve neighborhood character.”

The final HLA standard elements report is out The good: - a bus lane now has to be full time or 13' wide to check the "bike lane" box - more requirements on traffic calming on neighborhood streets - TEN improvements The bad: - a bus lane isn't bike infrastructure! drive.google.com/file/d/1-kp3...

It's a sad day in Los Angeles when our country transportation agency @metrolosangeles.bsky.social ignores the law and the will of the voters. The board just unanimously approved the Vermont BRT without bike lanes. We are discussing next steps internally and will share more soon.

Join us Wednesday, April 9th from 5-6pm for our next happy hour! We’ll be sitting down with Deputy Mayor of Infrastructure, City of Los Angeles, Randall Winston. Bring your best transportation questions and RSVP here: us06web.zoom.us/meeting/regi...

In advance of Thursday's board meeting where staff is asking the @metrolosangeles.bsky.social board to approve the Vermont Transit Corridor, we sent the following letter to Stephanie Wiggins and Metro board members. We want bus lanes on Vermont! We also want safety improved for all road users.

We had a great lunchtime chat with @ianwalker.bsky.social chatting about Motornormativity: our shared bias that prevents society from judging motorized transportation rationally. youtu.be/dVwsCFCgT_o

Here are our NC endorsements for Hollywood Hills West, Greater Wilshire, P.I.C.O., and Mid City West! These candidates support safe, multimodal transportation in Los Angeles. Be sure to request your ballot by April 7 and vote by April 15. For more, click here: www.streetsforall.org/2025-neighbo...

As larger, taller sport utility vehicles took over US roads, they also aggravated highway congestion, according to a new study. It’s yet another ill effect of “car bloat.” - @davidzipper.bsky.social www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
