🧪 Dear CA Representatives & Senators: Thanks for your support of science @levin.house.gov @repscottpeters.bsky.social @schiff.senate.gov @padilla.senate.gov It would be awesome if you were to join #standupforscience on March 7 in Sacramento or Los Angeles @standupforscience.bsky.social

🚨 WANT TO HELP US STAND UP FOR SCIENCE? 🚨 Here's a little update on where we're currently at with the planning process! Is your state red or grey & you want to see an event happen? Fill out our volunteer form or share with a friend! airtable.com/app4h5wUssMG... #standupforscience2025

🗞️ Targum Labor Read of the Day - "I came today because I'm a young scientist, and I have always wanted to be a scientist, & so I'm just hoping that my career can continue, and the career about other young scientists can continue."-Sophia Maddocks, first-year Ph.D. student. loom.ly/l8DJ7cg

Getting tissue stress from images is tough, and elastic tension sensors are a way to solve this. Still, the analysis is complex. Try our GUI gitlab.gwdg.de/betzlab_publ... implementing analytical solutions to obtain surface stresses AND shape parameters of beads and nuclei.

Welcome to the Bluesky account for Stand Up for Science 2025! Keep an eye on this space for updates, event information, and ways to get involved. We can't wait to see everyone #standupforscience2025 on March 7th, both in DC and locations nationwide! #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

We are looking for a new Executive Editor on the journal, with @katherine-brown.bsky.social taking on a new role at @biologists.bsky.social. If you're an experienced editor with a love of developmental biology and its community, this could be the job for you. Full details in the link below.

A look at the economic impact of our research: 8,340 jobs created $248m in salaries & wages paid $328m in indirect labor income earned $32m in state & local taxes generated Learn more about the impact of #UofU research: www.research.utah.edu/facts-and-fi...

This is my first every pre-print! Yes I am late to the party - but happy to make this entrance. Congrats to all my co-authors on their lovely work. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

The evolution of shape diversity through the lens of physics—explored in our new paper! A fruitful collaboration between our lab @EMBL, Salbreux’s lab @unige & others, led by @BailleulRichar1—now independent at @ENS_ULM—& Nicolas Cuny. bit.ly/3WRqdEa

But what about intermediate filaments? This question is often in my head when I see a talk about cell mechanics focused on actin or microtubules. I am @tom_golde and today I will give you a short overview about the role of intermediate filaments (IF) in #EpithelialMechanics

Great new paper on spatiotemporal organization of cell division in zebrafish embryos. The mitotic waves preceding the ZGA are phase waves set by differences in N/C ratio, driven by geometry-induced asymmetric divisions. Important new insights and very interesting addition to the field.

It turns out that #EggChamber #elongation and rotation can be decoupled in #Drosophila egg chamber #morphogenesis - check out our recent collaborative work with the Dahmann lab. journals.biologists.com/dev/article/... . Congrats to Akanksha Bhatt and Valentin Ruffine 👏🥳

Early-career researchers: Apply by 14 February for a funded place at the 'Democratising Microscopy in Latin America: Imaging Across Scales and Regions' Workshop occurring 12-15 October 2025. https://bit.ly/4aXgFxq #Microscopy #SciSky

Thrilled to share our new preprint from Ye Zhu in the lab. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... . We look at the cell fate potential and degree of cadherin switching of human ES cells differentiated to different primitive streak coordinates.

New paper alert! ‼️‼️ Super happy to share that my postdoc paper is finally out! 1/3 We looked at scaling of chromosome separation during anaphase in zebrafish embryos.

You are a biologist and want to get an idea why looking at intracellular active mechanics is important for cellular function? Check out our recent review preprint: arxiv.org/abs/2501.14538. We try to give an intuitive access, but also provide details in extensive toolboxes.

Yesterday President Trump announced a pause on all federal grant disbursals. While it is a bit vague on details, it appears to include research grants. This would be devastating to American science. If you have not had a chance, call your Senators & Reps 🧪 www.cnn.com/2025/01/27/p...

📣Check out our work led by @alex-plum.bsky.social ! We developed a mathematical framework for morphogen patterning in dynamic tissues, revealing key insights into how morphogenesis mediates cell-cell communication, morphogen compartmentalization and fate coordination. biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Very excited that the lab's first paper is out! We showed that in stem cells, Aurora B controls abscission dynamics by regulating microtubules stability and MCAK recruitment. Very happy with this streamlined version of our 2024 preprint. www.cell.com/cell-reports...

An ascidian egg dividing - as seen with fluorescent LifeAct protein (labels actin). The cleavage ring becoming smaller. Thanks to the Ascidian BioCell Team at LBDV

As the Trump Administration destroys the institutional progress we have made in diversity, equity and inclusion in science & education, each of us retains the opportunity to reflect and speak out. The piece I wrote four years ago is even more relevant today 🧪 www.molbiolcell.org/doi/10.1091/...

Happy #FluorescenceFriday to those who celebrate! Here's a beautiful quail neural tube and somites labelled for microtubules 🟠 and actin 🔵. Imaged by Power-RA Siew Zhuan Tan. #devbio 🧪🔬👩‍🔬
