Hahaha, the Sonic scan upscale guy is saying the AI was to avoid “compression issues” in changing .cbz to .pdf, which is like… why even say that when literally everybody who knows anything about cbz files will immediately go “hang on, that’s made-up bollocks”.

Also, this. When I wrote about “getting it in the neck” earlier I was writing from the easy mode perspective of a white dude. I barely get any truly personal shit from people and I still found the occasional weekends when I was the main character of the old site because I said “Game bad” unbearable.

Agree entirely with this, though there are a number of factors that disincentivise this kind of criticism, especially when reviewing stuff for SEO-focused outlets - it has cost me work in the past - and with exceptions where it may be more helpful to readers to make that distinction.

I see that the guy who tried to charge money for scans of Sonic the Comic via an app has now uploaded AI upscales of the first 100 issues to a new website and is attempting to solicit donations for what is quite plainly other peoples' work.
