Study examines whether teachers actually benefit from collaboration and finds that not all collaboration improves teaching, but high-quality, useful collaboration strengthens instructional quality, which in turn improves student achievement. sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

SUCH a pleasure to talk to @gtavernetti.bsky.social ! To compare and contrast US/UK systems is a very interesting topic. Thanks for the opportunity to explore it!

Tried the colliding steel spheres demonstration with infrared camera today (trying to think of lots of places to use it to justify buying it). Colliding steel spheres with infrared camera youtu.be/lyESx_6Ahj0

What's the "sweet spot" for spacing out practice? for students scoring below 35% they likely need more instruction or support first, while students scoring above 75% probably won't gain much from spacing out their practice. 🧵 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1...

Really looking forward to reading this, and sharing with my team @nustem.bsky.social

The Becoming Educated Podcast is back. My conversation with ⁦‪Christopher Such will be available from Tuesday 18th February We explore the key theme of his outstanding book ‘Primary Reading Simplified’ Available on all podcasting platforms

This is well worth a read and sets out the case for a knowledge-based curriculum very well and even how this can be done within the existing CfE curriculum arrangements in Scotland, although I am sure it would be even better with a well designed knowledge-based curriculum from the ground up.

If you missed our fascinating discussion on a knowledge-based curriculum you can watch the full event back on our website. In this clip @daisychristo.bsky.social talks to @chrisdeerin.bsky.social about the consensus on education that had existed in England youtu.be/HTvymc6uJFg

Students learn faster when they see what something is and what it isn’t. One of the most important aspect of curriculum planning + instructional design is effectively using examples and non-examples. 🧵⬇️

Forgive the quote-post, but this idea comes up often enough that it makes sense for me to write a stand-alone thread on here that addresses this (probably) inaccurate extrapolation of cognitive load theory. So here's a thread on why asking pupils to follow as a teacher reads probably is fine. >>

IT’S HERE! I am a massive believer in the power of concrete examples. This 4-part documentary shows lessons & unpacks the thinking behind them. Huge thanks to @pepsmccrea.bsky.social, the team at Steplab, Postcode films & of course colleagues & pupils for their involvement. 🙌🏼

@mrdissent.bsky.social Congratulations 🎉

My new book, Primary Reading Simplified, is released this Monday. Briefly, I'd like to explain why it exists, who I think will find it useful and where you can find it. >>

This is a really good explanation of how LLMs work. Highlights its strengths (it's really good at language) and its weakness (it doesn't actually know anything, so will unpredictably make things up).

Getting maths curriculum right ‘needs wisdom of the entire system’ Interesting! One clear message here is the the current Outcomes technical framework is on its way out. Good! It was always the weakest aspect of CfE www.tes.com/magazine/new...

Going to have a wee read - should be useful for anyone involved in Scotland's Curriculum Improvement Cycle www.reformscotland.com/publication/... @stuartphysics.bsky.social
