How are you, Eduworld?

Primary educators 👋🏻 I am interviewing teachers for a research project aimed at understanding how teachers learn from each other in the workplace. But my sample is currently very secondary heavy Could you (please!) spare me an hour of your time this week or next? It will be interesting, I promise!

1/ 🧵 How Do Children Start Learning to Write Before They Start School? Children often arrive at school with a surprising amount of writerly knowledge. Let’s explore how early experiences lay the foundation for writing. 🧠✍️

Had the absolute pleasure of reading this for the first time today. @trivium21c.bsky.social prods and provokes in all the right ways here. 👇

AI isn’t a shortcut. It needs teaching, shaping, and purpose. But when you get that right, it reflects your thinking with precision. It’s not the answer, but a tool that sharpens the answer already taking shape.

I just LOVE this from @emmaturner75.bsky.social's recent blog. It gives me such confidence in the amazing practitioners out there like her & it's great to see that there's such an appetite for the kind of English teaching I've spent my whole career doing, arguing for & trying to offer support for!

This is a positive move for tackling hunger in schools. With the impacts of child poverty still seen throughout the school day, this is a good first step in ensuring all children, particularly those from the poorest families, are able to start their day ready to learn.

I’ve always believed in protecting women’s spaces, but I’m starting to question whether excluding trans women is the right way. The law already recognises them — so if we ignore that, aren’t we just creating confusion and more harm than good?

A NEU survey published today reveals 9 in 10 teachers have seen pupils arriving at school tired due to poverty. Teachers quietly spending their own money on classroom resources has become normalised – but it shouldn’t be.

Where are most people particularly active these days? Here or X? I'd thought everyone had made the migration but it's often very quiet here and when I look at X, there's quite a few posts more. What are we thinking?

Tonight's #Staffroom question... 🗨️

Society grows great when education empowers people by giving them the knowledge, confidence and critical thinking skills to express themselves clearly. It is our duty to help others challenge injustice and speak up for what's right, creating stronger, fairer communities and a more just society.

Would love this! @suchmo83.bsky.social is someone I have a great deal of respect for! Whomever wins this will be in for a treat! 📚📖
