My first contribution to #ReadIndies, with Stella Benson's 1924 novel Pipers and a Dancer - pub. by Michael Walmer. @kaggsy59.bsky.social @lizzysiddal.bsky.social

So ... is there a *Mr.* Carriage of Justice? 😏

Aghhh I thought we'd get maybe five more years. Just two - and without a single storyline for Susan?! - is not enough.

It’s celebration time! @bibliopaul.bsky.social and I have made it to 100 episodes of The Mookse and the Gripes Podcast, and we take a moment (well, a bit longer than a moment) to answer all kinds of listener questions, which are perhaps unsurprisingly about books! open.substack.com/pub/mookse/p...

This was such a good read. I was also slightly reminded of the two Celias. Highly recommend this and all the others in the British Library Women Writers series. 📚💙

Wonderful review from Jacqui 🍂🧡

New on the blog today, I've written about LADY LIVING ALONE by Norah Lofts. There are hints of Celia Dale and Celia Fremlin in this noirish tale of a gullible spinster who is fearful of living alone. My latest review for #ReadIndies. #BookSky 💙📚 jacquiwine.wordpress.com/2025/02/20/l...

It's always a risky business re-reading a book you read ages ago: will it still hold up? or will you be left scratching your head wondering why you liked it in the first place? Fortunately this one, which I loved years ago and we're reissuing soon, is still a page-turner the second time around.

Another packed Betsey Book Quiz last night. Thank you to everyone who came along! For those of you that couldn’t make it, here’s the covers round. They all begin ’The U..’ how many do you know?

Lonely women in literature, new on my blog today. readersretreat2017.wordpress.com/2025/02/18/l...

I'd like to see this in all rural communities tbh. The last three properties to sell on my (very small) street have gone to second-homers.

In which I rattle through eight recent reads...

Uh, normal shipping is fine...

I am at exactly 3,500 books in my library, which is quite pleasing www.librarything.com/catalog/Stuc...

Stuck for an indefinite time with a bleak future and nothing but four walls and the thoughts bouncing off your skull. In Solitary Confinement, coming March 31 in the Recovered Books series from @bhousepress.bsky.social, Christopher Burney tells how he survived and gained from this experience.

Amazing how a limo full of people is only half through the ice, but every step anybody makes on the ice is cracking it. #Emmerdale

I did the 3-months-for-£1 at MUBI but have no idea what to watch. I've done many of the ones people talk a lot about during a previous MUBI period (Fallen Leaves, Past Lives etc) Any recommendations for people-centred, non-violent, relatively pacy films on there?
