Man Lincoln thought he had a team of rivals but he never had one guy ranting about the autism epidemic and another guy trying to breed a race of superbabies with the exact same type of autism as him

I think what’s most striking about the last few months is how rarely anyone in the GOP applies this simple test. A lot of checks and balances rely on this kind of worrying about precedent but it’s now totally absent, as if they don’t think they’ll ever be out of power again.

Trump threatens to block all 10,000 international students from attending Harvard unless the school turns over student info they’ll use for new visa revocations and deportations. Every day feels like a fresh round of this country stabbing itself in the face. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/17/u...

How amazing that this fiend was never charged with any crime. Surely the government must have been eager to air its abundant evidence of his wrongdoing in court, under oath.

He knows he can’t get away with yanking all the vaccines, so he’s going to use lawsuits to get the manufacturers to do it themselves

Four years of pretending Biden’s economy was as bad as Trump has made ours in four months.

Ed Martin’s appearances on Russian state television should end his nomination to be a U.S. attorney. www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/...

This is a WILD list of data to disappear. I was braced for climate stuff, but not, like, shoreline maps and coastal bathymetry

Literally “if you ask us to prove he’s a terrorist, then maybe YOU are a terrorist!”

Can district courts order the executive branch to engage in specific acts of diplomatic negotiation? If SCOTUS doesn’t think so now, why did it let Matthew Kacsmaryk force U.S. diplomats to negotiate the revival of a Trump border policy in 2021 after Biden tried to end it? slate.com/news-and-pol...

Radical increase in number of allies encouraging you to firebomb a Walmart

Torture tourism, built just for republicans.

Really important piece. You would think the El Salvadoran current tyrant’s corrupt deal to protect MS-13 from US law enforcement would be a bigger story, but apparently it doesn’t involve 10 trans college athletes so @nytimes.com and others not interested.

Please repeat over and over: “Bending to the whims of a bully will not end his cruelty. It will only embolden him. The response to authoritarianism isn’t acquiescence. Bullies respond to one thing, and one thing only: a punch in the face.” —Gov. JB Pritzker

All 27 scientists at this CDC lab were told their duties were "unnecessary," and now viral outbreak investigations have been halted.

NEW: GOP lawmakers are preparing reconciliation bill with $90-175 BILLION in new funding for immigration enforcement. ICE's entire annual budget is ~$9 billion. Inside the Trump administration's plan for the real mass deportation campaign: www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc... @theatlantic.com

Black Americans make up 13% of the population. But as federal government employees, Black employees are: 20% of the Dept. of Health & Human Services 24% of the Dept. of Veterans Affairs 26% of postal workers, 30% of the Dept. of Education That's the "swamp" Trump is draining.

A couple thoughts on this: 1. It violates the law. In 1998, Congress explicitly provided that the President could not, directly or indirectly, request that the IRS start or end an audit or other investigation of a taxpayer. www.taxnotes.com/research/fed... 1/

Oh. "This is about whether we have functional constitutional government in this country. If the IRS can go after you because of what you think or what you believe or what you do, we'd no longer live in a free country.“

Honestly I'm glad they picked Harvard to try out this novel "we're mad" legal theory of revoking tax-exempt status, given its infinite resources, deep network of powerful alumni, and law school attended by 142 sitting federal judges. Good luck! 🫡

This is where we are headed. If you don’t believe me, ask what basis the government had to send me and my family to a prison camp in Arkansas. We “looked like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor.”

“Canceled sailings.” “Blank sailings.” The freight market is telling you everything you need to know about the coming wave of scarcity. @cnbc.com @loriannlarocco.bsky.social www.cnbc.com/2025/04/16/t...

It's worth watching Sen. Van Hollen's video. The VP of El Salvador wouldn't even give him proof of life or a timeframe when he could return and visit with Abrego Garcia.

Why can't Senator Van Hollen gain similar entrance?

I doubt that Democrats are deft enough to pull it off, but "Trump has cut illegal immigration only by killing off legal immigration and tourism" is a message that would play well even in red states.

Great news folks. Marco Rubio will not stand for the federal government or its agencies targeting institutions or organizations because of their political beliefs. That’s third-world stuff that can’t be allowed to happen here. You still believe all this, Marco, right? Right?

Huh, I wonder if the Trump administration has considered some kind of, oh, I dunno, a trans-Pacific partnership of some kind to facilitate their strategy towards China. www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Welp. Kind of just blew a big gaping hole in Trump's "Hey, what can we do?" defense.

Republicans are having their pictures taken in front of a building that houses thieves, rapists, pedophiles, and murderers. Then they are leaving the White House lawn and flying to El Salvador to pose in front of a prison.

This is like German politicians posing in front of Auschwitz or Birkenau and saying they are even more devoted now to the Final Solution.

The DHS spokesperson is now alleging that Mr. Abrego Garcia was arrested with "rolls of cash and drugs" and was "wearing what is effectively an MS-13 uniform" (Chicago Bulls gear). But: 1) He was arrested for loitering and not charged for anything 2) PGPD previously said they had no incident report

Fed Chair Powell: "cutting back on scientific research may have implications for economic growth, for productivity, for health, for all kinds of things, but those are very difficult to estimate in real time."

NEW: Rubio closes a State Dept. office that counters disinfo by China, Russia and Iran. He is firing about 40 employees. I’m told the person organizing it is Darren Beattie — fired from the first Trump White House for giving a speech to white nationalists. Story: www.nytimes.com/2025/04/16/u...

pretty sure this also weakens the argument that we cant get folks back

WSJ EDITORIAL BOARD: “.. The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that the government may not use federal benefits or funds to coerce parties to surrender their constitutional rights. This is what the Administration is doing ..” @wsj.com www.wsj.com/opinion/dona...

BREAKING: Chief Judge James Boasberg finds that probable cause exists to hold the Trump administration in criminal contempt for willful violation of his March 15 orders regarding Trump's Alien Enemies Act proclamation and sets next steps toward possible prosecution. More to come: www.lawdork.com

Reuters: JUDGE SAYS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL RESPONSIBLE FOR DEFYING ORDER ON DEPORTATIONS COULD FACE CRIMINAL PROSECUTION-COURT ORDER

If you're a reporter in a White House press briefing as the spokesperson for the government asserts flatly that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a member of the MS-13 gang who's guilty of human trafficking and you sit there silently without shouting out "PROVE IT!" I'd like to invite you to go fuck yourself.

the right always say they just want immigrants to assimilate! here you have a "Maryland dad" but he's not *really* from Maryland according to them he's wearing a Chicago Bulls hat but he's not *really* a Chicago Bulls fan according to them you'll never be American enough

No biggie. This man is temporarily in charge of, and Trump wants to put him permanently in charge of, one of the two United States Attorney’s offices that handle the most national-security matters. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...
