It will take a generation to untangle ourselves from the US. Our entire economy runs on American tech. They make our computers, our phones, their operating systems, and most of the software we use every day. Europe and UK have no ready replacements. They must be built first.

When I was Head of Engineering for a VoIP provider, I had Skype down on my risk register as one of our major potential competitors. Did not foresee that Microsoft would buy it and bury it. That’s the kind of incompetence normally associated with Google.
