I worked at a Virgin Megastore in 2002, and we played Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots so much that I actually thought I hated this band for a solid decade afterward. Wild to listen to it again in my 40s and weep like a baby because it's so fucking beautiful.

I used to sing this to C to rock her to sleep. But I'd substitute "...that everyone you know someday will die." With "...that everyone you know someday will like pie" awkward but what are you gonna do.

the Lips cooked so unbelievably hard on this one, this song never fails to put me in my feelings. also has one of the most effective chord changes ever

A few years ago, my then 3 yo daughter needed a minor procedure on her ear. It required her to be put under anesthesia. She was so scared, and i was allowed to hold her. I quietly sang this to her as she slipped off to sleep. No idea why it popped in my head. It’s her song now, though.

My favorite song about dying. ⚰️⚰️

This was the opening track on a mixed CD I made my fiancé a month or two into dating

had the DVD Audio 5.1 mixes of Yoshimi and The Soft Bulletin, Do You Realize?? moved in a circle around the speakers, then started moving in the opposite direction when it hit the key change, much as I've dropped out of paying attention to The Flaming Lips no one's doing stuff like that anymore

Yoshimi dropped two months after I turned 18 and it’s not an exaggeration to say this song shaped my worldview

The Flaming Lips - "Do You Realize??" (2002)

I hadn't seen much Portlandia before moving there, but since leaving, I'll watch the show primarily to get glimpses of the town and the locals. This song sounds perfectly melancholic to me and I 💔 it.

Saudades

I have seen the link to this video show up on my feed for about ten straight days now, and will do everything in my power to extend that streak to infinity straight days.

this made me wanna move to the PNW so bad as a kid

Another addition to the tale of my teenage musical awakening.

When I first moved to Portland in 2011, folks asked me if it was really like Portlandia. Don’t be ridiculous. It’s a tv show. And yes, it was exactly like that.

they need to make a portlandia but about montreal

TV on the Radio on TV = the musical equivalent of getting the invincibility star in Super Mario Bros.

The nostalgia this ignites 🥹

culture suffers without late night shows hosting wild performances from up&coming bands. streaming did this.

Washed Out's "Feel It All Around" (2009) becomes the Portlandia theme (2011)

This being almost 20 years ago has me fucked up

The best part of this is that Emily Haines from Metric and Feist are still on vocals. The band always puts on a show. One of my favorites.

RIP croz 🥲

this video popping up is like when the DVD logo hits the corner of the screen, just been waiting for the moment to hit

Fun fact: Broken Social Scene is technically considered a “Big Band” a la Tommy Dorsey since they’re a 40-piece indie outfit and shred

Good GRIEF

Scored tickets to catch TV On The Radio in Detroit while I was broke-as-all-hells in college, and to this date, it counts as one of the best days of my life. We were losing our minds, literally tearing our shirts off during their set. It was the best of times.

this is objectively one of the best live preformances ever you cannot argue shut up

Doesn't really get much better than this does it?

We used to be a proper country

Might be the best one this account has posted yet, which is saying something

When the unfinished album version of Wolf Like Me leaked it lit the message boards ON FIRE in a way I feel like only I remember

Looking at the energy/aggression levels on all the performances Chris has been posted here really highlights how we’re in a Poise era.

Oooooh yeah this is the one we’ve all been waiting for. Top 3 late night performance ever.

🐐 late night performance

TV On The Radio play "Wolf Like Me" on Letterman (2006)

Når USA oppfører seg så tøysete og bøllete mot Canada som de gjør nå tenker jeg at vi alle utelukkende bør høre på kanadisk indie en god stund framover

An all time favorite

like any millennial i enjoyed this song when it came out, but it wasn’t until watching them perform it live that i realized it’s one of the best songs of the 2000s

Without hyperbole one of the greatest songs of all time

Such amazing rep for the baritone guys with a good falsetto community, really meant a lot

Sick boy make moves like a chess piece And that move real quick like nestle Let me make it clear for a second like Pepsi I was never worried bout my wallet being empty Cause when it was empty, I was still happy Walkin with my Walkman, freestyle rappin High school bullies like what the fuck happened
