Bret, you don't appreciate the 'audience engagement' of 100 accounts called BasedStoneAgeMisogynist replying with "Great Man theory is Truth. Full Stop."?

Heres your daily dose of proof the UK is the opposite of a meritocracy from the Guardian's stable of compete imbeciles it for some reason keeps on the payroll

Well its certainly a study in how ones personal neuroses dominate how they see politics

You CANNOT have a social system where people do not suffer social penalties for lying without it turning into rule-by-scammers. People have spent decades deliberately getting us to this point, Trump & Musk are not unique but the inevitable outcome of the system
comment in response to post
wrong. If everyone lies you just end up with the politic system in the UK, where the major parties just do the same thing in office regardless of what they promised during the election

One look at stuff like this should demonstrate how ludicrous the rules are, but since the goal is pretty explicitly punishing the poor we might as well add more rules

The British press is an extreme evolutionary machine to select for the ability to confidently present yourself as stupider that you would think humanly possible

For @listentocrass.lesbian.cat, Consider Phlebas reads very differently to most of the later books (its the Culture's Colours of Magic if you've read a lot of Terry Pratchett). Its closer in tone to Bank's Against a Dark Background.

I think Hydrogen Sonata is my favourite, but yeah its about grappling with your mortality more than politics (same with Surface Detail, but I think that got an unusually heavy handed (for Banks) political message too).

The French occupation of Nouvelle-Orléans, capital of the French Republic, was very confusing to talk about for everyone in Anglophone North America

People in the comments are saying that Leopold & the Congo is closer, and we'll see. I don't think germaphobe Trump will want piles of hands but I'm sure he can get someone else to count them for him.

My house is part of a sovereign network state not subject to the laws of your outmoded 'nation' state. Why yes, that does include age of consent laws. What a strange question to ask unprompted, officer.

They are not promoting Gemini as a product. They are propagandizing its acceptability. We are getting the product delivered regardless, they need to convince us that it's good enough. That the problems aren't problems.

My fellow Americans, to beat the Chinese we've gotta build more iron smelters. Build one on your lawn folks, pig iron production numbers will be 'uge!

Annexing Canada would actually solve the domestic aluminum production shortfall but I don't think he connects the two in his head
comment in response to post
Same as the reason he wants to annex Greenland and/or Canada just boils down to the simple 'America bigger on map = MAGA)
comment in response to post
If you tariff imports that will increase domestic production. (arguments like 'yeah but how long will that take' and 'won't domestic producers just add 24% to their prices' show you don't want to MAGA)
