Welcome to Bluesky @mandhc.bsky.social

MSK conditions are a leading cause of disability and absence from work, yet @WeAreARMA’s latest report reveals that 1 in 3 ICBs fail to meaningfully reference MSK in their plans. A strategic, system-wide approach is needed! Read the report & recommendations: arma.uk.net/icb/

My news this week is that I'm planning to leave ARMA after 8 years. Which means there is now a brilliant opportunity for the right person to lead a small charity delivering impact where it matters for people with MSK conditions. Details www.charityjob.co.uk/jobs/arthrit...

How can you reduce waiting times for community MSK appointments❓ Join @nhsgirft.bsky.social webinar to hear how the GIRFT community #MSK programme can support your work. 📅6/3 - 12.30 Register 🔗 www.events.england.nhs.uk/events/intro...

Great to spend yesterday at @nhsgirft.bsky.social MSK event in London. Leaves me encouraged that we can join up MSK services and deliver what's needed by patients not just shorter waiting times. Was worth the trip, (even the massively delayed return train journey!)

The latest Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance (ARMA) newsletter is out now and it's a bumper issue. There is so much going on in #MSK health at the moment. 👇👇👇 arma.uk.net/nlfeb25

Today we launched a new report with @thekingsfund.bsky.social & @healthwatchengland.bsky.social which demonstrates the scale and impact of poor #NHSAdmin. Read a thread from our Chief Executive, @jacoblant.bsky.social on why ending the 'admin doom loop' is so crucial 👇

Around 10,000 children in the UK have JIA, which causes inflammation, pain, stiffness & can be debilitating. Fewer than half of these children see a rheumatologist within the recommended 10 weeks. Important report on JIA from @ncepod.bsky.social published today. ncepod.org.uk/2025jia.html

“I don't like classes being 'geared' to 'older' people. They should be tough but have modifications if needed. I think this mind set, that projects need to be easier, is sooooo wrong,” one supporter says.

On my way home after my last ever @voiceability.bsky.social board meeting. 9 years as trustee comes to an end. Thanks for the opportunity. I've learned so much.

Happy Christmas everyone and a massive thank you to everyone working today to keep the NHS and other essential services going.

An NHS Christmas Carol Our tale begins with a bitter and unhappy NHS senior manager, wondering about another year where nothing seems to be better, and lots seem to be worse. It's just not Christmassy enough to lift the fog this year either. And they see no need for anything they do to change. 1/

"Charity is a cold grey loveless thing. If a rich man wants to help the poor, he should pay his taxes gladly, not dole out money at a whim.”

Amazing to join the Ministerial launch of this new @nhsgirft.bsky.social programme on MSK community services. 17 ICBs working with GIRFT to drive down waiting times. Great recognition of the importance of #MSK health and of community services from Government. www.gov.uk/government/n...

In the last six months, our network provided 1.4 MILLION food parcels. This shouldn't be happening. Everyone should be able to afford essentials like food, toiletries and heating.

If you’ve not stopped to think about what promises around NHS targets means, then you could do worse than read this thought provoking piece from Siva. Any one who follows me from Twitter knows I’m not the biggest fans of current measures as they don’t always prioritise what matters most to people.

On my way to Edinburgh for the final nation launch of ARMA Act Now report. Looking forward to talking about how we can tackle inequalities in MSK health in Scotland. #MSKInequalities

Definition of a woman of ‘a certain age’: - Too old to be bullied & intimidated. - Too young to be patronised & ignored. Terrifying to men of a certain type.

Welcome @craigvic1973.bsky.social and @activeoxfordshire.bsky.social to BlueSky. I'm continuing to add newcomers to our #UnitingTheMovement starter pack - for anyone supporting active lives and addressing inequalities. Let me know if you need adding! go.bsky.app/6TRb4Bg

Day 2 of MSK 2024 opening with Anthony Gilbert outlining MSK outreach to foodbanks, homeless and drug and alcohol services. Amazing work delivering equity to people who need the service but can't access via traditional services.

Powerful stuff from Chloe Stewart today. Are we delivering outdated paternalistic interventions that no longer meet our needs? Or are we delivering truly personalised care that hears what matters to people and shares power. #MSKInequalities

Excellent opening from @suebrownsb.bsky.social on all things inequality and MSK Some sobering stats regarding inequality, gender, deprivation and ethnicity.

A privilege to speak at the MSK 2024 conference this morning on health inequalities. If only 20% of our health is driven by healthcare but the rest is hard to change, we need to make that 20% really count. #MSKInequalities

Packing to travel to Birmingham for tomorrow’s opening of #MSK2024 conference. Really looking forward to opening the two days of discussion of MSK health inequalities. Important issues that we can all do something about, however small. Together we make a difference.

My take on the 3 shifts we need for #MSK health: 👉Focus on the conditions with the biggest impact on population health. 👉Measure what matters to patients. 👉Give community support parity of esteem with hospital care. Works for other long term conditions too. arma.uk.net/three-shifts...

If you have children in a state secondary in London, or work for one, I can come and give a wee careers talk about what's it like working in the VCSE. It's nothing spectacular, but there is always a few lovely young people whose ears prick up when I eulogise about work with purpose.

Patients need to be able to look after their own health. No point blaming individuals when 1 in 5 live in poverty and can't afford to eat a healthy diet. Our unhealthy habits are driven by political and commercial decisions.
