So the CeX is closing its retail stores in the Netherlands after its 9 locations were targeted by more than 20 armed robberies in a one-year period, and I just can't help but wonder why the CeX, specifically, was targeted so often. Was their security just... *that* bad compared to other stores?

A growing number of same-sex parents are raising children in Hong Kong. They are a minority within a minority in the city, where same-sex marriage is not recognised and reproductive laws are restricted to married heterosexual couples. #PrideMonth

Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated last night, was the Speaker of the Minnesota House in the 2023-2024 session, when Democrats ran the state government. That means she had a leading role in shepherding the many landmark reforms that Dems adopted in that period—an important legacy. Brief 🧵.

Even as someone not in the USA, it's so horrifyingly dystopian, seeing Americans, regardless of actual migration status, warn each other in group chats not to go outside depending on their skin color.

Bought the Nintendo DS video game adaptation of highly acclaimed nature documentary "March of the Penguins" (2005)

Just got a 36 (!) stealth check in D&D 5e, by casting Pass Without Trace (+10), then transforming into a Giant Wolf Spider (+7) and rolling a 19.

New Japanese vocabulary I learned today as part of efforts to write down an explanation of my Evangelion-related tanka: 羊水 (amniotic fluid), 愛着理論 (attachment theory).

Found a Japanese novel from 1989, apparently featuring something in terms of LGBT identities according to my quick Google searches, at the local secondhand bookstore here in Leiden. "Yes. Yes. Yes." by Hisao Hiruma.

Let's go!

They're selling Minecraft fanfiction in stores these days. Translated to Dutch, even.

"CeX sluit alle Nederlandse vestigingen. Er wordt geen reden gegeven. Het bedrijf zegt wel online door te blijven gaan." "De fysieke winkels in Amsterdam, Arnhem, Leeuwarden en Leiden sluiten op 16 juni. De winkels in Breda, Eindhoven, Nijmegen, Rotterdam en Zaandam gaan op 22 juni dicht."

"Opponents of President Donald Trump’s administration are set to rally in hundreds of cities on Saturday during the military parade in Washington for the Army’s 250th anniversary — which coincides with Trump’s birthday."

Guy who starts smoking purely to cast votes in the national friet vs patat debate

I deeply value my attraction to men, if only for absolving me from having to partake in lesbian identity discourse.

The detrans grift is an immensely profitable one, but that should be understood as a violation of detrans people - who have many of the same needs of us - rather than the moral failing of a whole community. Nor should it be weaponised as a cudgel against trans men framed as potential future threats.

Do you guys think they'll ever make a Pokémon region based on the Netherlands, and if so: what gimmicks and Pokémon will that region have?

You thought your dr "just googling your symptoms" during consultation was bad? How about a dr who incredulously asks his Twitter audience of nearly 200k people whether your situation "is even possible" because he lets his prejudice against fat people get in the way of basic medical knowledge?

Junichiro Tanizaki's first major novel after the Great Kanto Earthquake was an NTR story. Incredible.

"Zohran Mamdani, the young democratic socialist who has been rising in the mayor’s race, is now ahead of Andrew Cuomo with just two weeks until the Democratic primary, a new poll reviewed in full by POLITICO found."

Oh, yes, right. Of course. The "potentially straight(?) cis lady (...) who is wearing all three 'he/him' 'she/her' and 'they/them' pins for pride." Do you even hear yourself?
