Cultural competence in research - what is it and how do you do it in your research? These questions and more in this awesome guest post from @sumanprinjha.bsky.social πŸ’ mentalhealthresearch.org.uk/suman-prinjh...

Our fantastic Community Researcher Tahsin Tabassum @tahsintt.bsky.social is leading work with Bangladeshi women in the UPTURN COPD study. Her great new blog focuses on juggling her research role on the UPTURN study with a PhD, both at the University of York ⬇️ www.upturn-study.co.uk/post/walking...

My latest journal article is a labour of love. As an #Irish researcher living in England, I am frustrated when reports on #ethnic #inequalities leave out the Irish. I reviewed 20 years of literature and found that the Irish in Britain are still disadvantaged in mental health, mortality, and suicide.

Very proud to call this team colleagues ❀️

#CommunityResearchers based @york.ac.uk are working on the #UPTURN study which focuses on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, commonly referred to as #COPD which is a progressive #lungdisease that makes it hard to breathe. We're a team of 5 researchers from diverse backgrounds working together to embed research inclusion in the clinical trial & recruit people from ethnic minority groups www.upturn-study.co.uk/post/meet-th...

I am not that surprised that more women quit academic publishing than men- this chimes with data showing fewer women get their papers published, grants funded if they lead them and that more women get pushed into support roles. We do need to do more to support and mentor female staff. πŸ§ͺ

Are maternity & #publichealth teams on the same page w/ communities when reducing ethnic inequities in maternity experiences? My 1st PhD paper tries to answer this question in partnership with Black families in West London. #academicsky #matexp #medsky #QIsky doi.org/10.1136/bmjqs-2024-017848 1/

Congratulations to #THISfellow Laiba Husain for passing her PhD. Laiba’s fellowship project explored the scaling up of remote, virtual consultations while addressing barriers of equity for minority ethnic groups. Learn more about her project ths.im/4ePv1QO

Cervical cancer mortality in US women younger than 25 years significantly declined between 2016 and 2021, likely due to the widespread adoption of HPV vaccination. ja.ma/4i9ghPC

Loving this paper 'Rethinking barriers and enablers'. How many thousands of weak research studies have reduced complex change to 'identifying and addressing barriers and enablers'? Here's how to do better! journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

Huge congratulations Dr Husain ❀️

Congratulations Dr Laiba Husain passed DPhil today. Thanks to examiners Tanvi Rai and Suman Prinja!
