I love this very colorful, fun, rhymey book about street art. There's so much to look at and the writing is like a song.

When I’m not writing, I’m painting in my little art studio. What do you do away from your computer?

We're supposed to be above freezing next week. Woohoo!

This month I'm trying something new on my Substack. I interviewed my critique partner, Sarah. We work together on our middle grade books, but I knew she did so much more, and I wanted to hear about it. Turns out she also self-publishes romance novels. Check it out! open.substack.com/pub/susandre...

For my middle grade work in progress, I've googled: other uses for syrup, characteristics of donkeys, properties of nitric oxide, what's needed to sustain life on other planets, and what's in dirt. Any guesses what this book is about? And don't forget to tell me what you've googled! #WIP #mg #kidlit

I'm writing an article about things that new writers are afraid of. I was afraid of showing others my writing. What if they thought it stunk? Or stole my ideas? What were you afraid of? #writerslife #newwriters #kidlit

This is a fun, creepy read! Plus, it's set on an island in the summer. Just the thing to warm me up on a cold winter day.

I just got this new book to help me with authors visits and it’s wonderful! If you need help with your visits too I’d check it out. #authorvisits #kidlit #edusky

It's Darwin Day and it has me thinking about how I can adapt to changes around me. In my writing, I'm trying new things. I entered the NYC Short Story Challenge for the first time. Results of the first round are due in April. Are you doing anything new for 2025?

This was a fabulous middle grade book about a tough subject. It was done with such compassion and great characters.

This is one of my favorite kinds of books. The story & pics are a blast, & kids will be inspired to make their own box creations. A great way to spend a cold day. Read Not-A-Box City & gather up all your own cardboard and get creative! #picturebooks #cardboardart #cardboardcraftsforkids #cardboard

I made onion soup last night because it's my husband's favorite. And I know better! I know to let it cool down a bit before I dig in. But that cheesy goodness got the better of me again. I burned the roof of my mouth, and I'll do it again next time. I always do.

Are the icicles trying to get in the house? Or have I been reading too much horror?

I need some silliness today. Tell me your best joke!

Just what I need for a Monday!

Don't bother me today while I finish reading this super fun middle grade mystery. Missing art, a ghost, and a turtle! What's not to love?

Sadie is at MagicBeans Bookstore! Go check them out. Besides books, they have a blog, a newsletter, and donate books to underserved children nationwide.

-10 this morning! Poor doggies!

I bet you didn't know about this holiday! Did you know a group of squirrels was called or scurry? Or that their front teeth grow at a rate of 6 inches per year? So go put out some nuts or seeds! Have a party! Hey, it's cold out. Below zero. I need something to celebrate! Work with me, people! 😀

This is a special book. Not strictly non-fiction or fiction. It's a magical walk through the forest with gorgeous illustrations. It made me think of my hiking ladies. How many days have we spent taking pictures of mushrooms? This is for us.

How's your January going? You can read about mine in my new Substack. substack.com/home/post/p-...
