An armadillo dug a hole under my deck. I put a camera under there to monitor activities. I am interested in wildlife, invasive plant eradication, weather, books, and rocks.

Critter Hole Cam survived another armadillo attack last night

This is a first: an armadillo attacked the Critter Cam. Possums have attacked it numerous times, stolen it once, and a wild hog tried to eat it once. I keep the cam duct taped to a brick now so it doesn't go far.

The armadillo has been away for a few days and the possum has had the Critter Hole all to itself and apparently made a mess of things. The armadillo spent several hours last night moving in new bedding.

I'm pretty sure this possum and the armadillo are sharing the Critter Hole these days. It got so cold the armadillo realized the advantage of having a fat, furry roommate. In this video the possum is getting cleaned up before going out on the town.

Times are bleak, it’s true. But people are still out here doing incredible work now, when it matters most. Activists in KY bought land slated for a new prison, and will now fill it with native plants and use it as an intertribal gathering location. 🌱🌎🧪🌿

This is one industrious armadillo. It spent another couple of hours redecorating the Critter Hole last night. The possums must have really left it a mess.

The armadillo has reclaimed the Critter Hole. It spent several hours last night moving in new furnishings.

The armadillo makes an appearance.

Possum getting cleaned up before heading out for the night.

An opossum dragged the remains of a raccoon into the Critter Hole. (Not in this video). Bobcat wants it back.

The opossum in the foreground appears to be unconcerned about what the opossum in the background is doing. Fighting with something in the Critter Hole maybe? The more I attempt to study animal behavior in my tiny area of the planet the more mystified I become.

A raccoon complains to Management that he never gets to sleep in the Critter Hole. Sadly for him Management has been asleep in her own cozy nest for hours.

Another opossum standoff at the Critter Hole last night. Did they agree to share? Did they chase each other around the yard long enough to give the armadillo time to reclaim his nest? The camera didn't record anything after this so we'll never know. The camera was cold too.

It's supposed to be snowing but I don't see any yet. Half an hour ago I dumped the ice out of the wildlife water pans and filled them with hot water. Not sure what the big possum's intentions were toward the smaller possum but he got distracted by a handy unfrozen drink.

Possum notices the Critter Hole cam is back in its correct position. Doesn't react with violence. Yet.

Possum stops to gloat over the fallen critter hole cam.

Costco is building apartments above its stores to address the affordable housing crisis, early this year. Walking downstairs and getting a $1.50 hot dog gives new meaning to “affordable walkability.” It includes free, a rooftop pool, fitness area, gardens/ courtyards, and a community space

An armadillo notices something is wrong with the critter hole cam. Doesn't fix it.

Welcome to the party, pal!

A possum flips the Critter Cam on its side while another possum looks on. The Critter Cam is duct taped to a brick because a possum stole the camera last year. This does not prevent violence but keeps the camera out of the critter hole (so far).

Something caused a possum to drop a load of leaves on the way to the critter hole. This one decides to add it to the tail full they are already carrying so we get to see the loading process.

Scotland has just introduced a first-of-its-kind ‘ecocide prevention’ bill to impose harsh penalties, including jail time, for executives of major polluters. www.bbc.com/news/article...

In the process of baking Christmas cookies for my brother I chopped some pecans and then dropped the bowl on the floor. I swept up the pecans and tossed them out in front of the wildlife camera. My neighbor dropped by with a gift bag of pecans. So that worked out :)

Every now & again, it's useful to say why I do all these eel history tweets. Mostly, it's because eels need our help. They're critically endangered, seeing a c.90% drop in population in the last decades. But it's hard to get people to care! 'Cause...eels are gross & slimy. 1/2 🗃️🧪

It's cold! Possum spent some time early this morning bring more covers to the critter hole under the porch.

After seven years of experimentation, a team of researchers produced, through selective breeding, adult corals capable of resisting marine heat waves—a useful trait in an ever-warming world. Their work showed that corals can become better adapted to warming within a single generation.
