Corporate monopolies 💰🔥👿 drive #landgrabbing for #palmoil. To give #indigenous peoples, animals and #nature a fighting chance, we must resist. "Sustainable" palm oil is #greenwashing! #Boycottpalmoil #Boycott4Wildlife @palmoildetect.bsky.social 🌴🪔🧐🙊⛔️ palmoildetectives.com/2022/11/20/l...

It's #WorldWildlifeDay! 🐻 Our Professor @fionamathews.bsky.social recently returned from her latest research trip to #Ecuador with camera trap images of native wildlife including the Andean Bear, Puma, Tayra and Culpeo. Read about this vital conservation project: www.sussex.ac.uk/research/cen...

A couple of years ago I wrote an essay about avian influenza within a Dalmatian pelican colony and this was the great fear of the experts I spoke to. One said, "If it becomes easily transmissible to humans it could make Covid look like a birthday party." www.theguardian.com/world/2024/n...

The red-backed shrike, known as the butcher bird for its habit of impaling prey corpses on thorns etc, has been virtually extinct as a UK breeding species for decades. That it was once common is apparent from Richard Jefferies’s description of taking the train from London to Brighton in the 1880s.

After being absent for decades, pine martens are now present again across the New Forest, three-year study confirms. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVU9...

A conservation project to restore pine martens across Britain has hit a major milestone. A collaboration between Vincent Wildlife Trust (VWT) and Forestry and Land Scotland has successfully translocated more than 100 animals to Wales, Gloucestershire & Devon. 🧪 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

1/4 at the @btobirds.bsky.social conference this past weekend, Dr Teresa Frost (Head of Waterbird Monitoring at BTO) discussed 'Insights and Impacts from Monitoring Waterbirds', stressing the important use of WeBS, GSMP, NEWS and WinGS data for the conservation of these species #ornithology

Please help us track London’s kestrels! 🦅 Your sightings can help us understand their population and how we can help them thrive in the city. Seen a kestrel? We'd love to hear about it! Let us know here 👇 wildlondon.org.uk/campaigns/record-your-sightings/kestrel #Kestrel #CitizenScience

Blocking humanitarian aid is a clear breach of international law and will lead to more civilian suffering and deaths. UK must take the lead in condemning Israel's actions and calling for aid to be allowed into Gaza. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

When birds of prey try to nest on or near driven grouse moors , they are never safe . This is the tragic story of a young white-tailed eagle pair . We must ban driven grouse shooting , add your name at petition.parliament.uk/petitions/700036

New petition: "Nationalise the UK water industry" Deadline 29 May 2025, created by Leslie Allen #NewPetition

"We were expecting to get into this shear, but we never did," The bottom of the ice was moving just as fast as the top, because it was sliding on mud. If this finding holds up and is true of other ice streams, it suggests streams are pushing more ice into the ocean and flow could readily speed up.

Here’s today’s #OceanOptimism #EarthOptimism - a species of conservation concern has been successfully bred in captivity for the first time, which can contribute to their continued survival and eventual repopulation. 🧪🌎🐠🦑 www.bbc.com/news/article...

Happy to see this finally out in #landscapeecology How do more diverse agricultural landscapes and smaller fields affect the forging activity of #bats 🦇 doi.org/10.1007/s109...

The grouse shooting industry is out of control and it's had plenty of chances to reform but has failed miserably. Please sign.

🦇 (1/2) In response to the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s speech today: we believe that blaming the laws that protect bats, newts and other wildlife, as well as our wider environment, for planning delays is short sighted and misguided.

🦇 Exciting stuff!

Heroes, each and every one of them.

🧵 An absolute monumental effort yesterday with BDMLR (British Divers Marine Life Rescue) in an attempt to rescue this live stranded juvenile minke whale at Balmedie 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 #marinelife #ukwildlife #scicomm #minkewhale #whale

🦇 How are bat populations doing in the UK? A Bat Conservation Trust report on UK’s bat species, published in May 2024, showed nature can recover, given the right opportunity. But there are worrying signs of change which require more data collection to understand:

🦇The Swansea Bay Stars of the Night project is shinning a light on the lesser horseshoe #bat. #Wales holds 61% of the UK population of this species, many of which call the Gower region their home. Join #NaturAmByth in an exciting event to learn more about this species! See image for more info

Migrating hundreds and hundreds of miles is hard work for the common noctule bat. But this European species makes its marathon journey a little bit easier by paying attention to the weather.

🦇

It's an #Infographic! Have you thought of the skies being like an ocean? The study of airspaces is called "aeroecology". Bats, birds, &insects use windcurrents for large scale migration pathways. There is a lot going on up there! We don't think of conservation of "airspace" (but maybe we should).🦇🧪🌎
