Scrap automatic right of bishops to sit in Lords, says Harriet Harman

Maybe the real Christmas is sitting down on Boxing Day at 9am to write the introduction to your dissertation. ... No?

My recent paper update got a fair amount of attention on here and so I decided to make a thread! The paper studies recruitment at major US and European multinationals to quantify the salience of hiring discrimination in access to top jobs and identify its source…🧵 (1/N)

Logged off for the year!! Feels amazing.

“Successful delivery of the missions will rely heavily on colleges as anchor institutions, but government needs to create the environment in which that collaboration is incentivised and funded" - @hughesdavid.bsky.social on our mission accepted report. Read more: www.aoc.co.uk/news-campaig...

This is a case study in why a joined up skills sector is needed - so a regulator can't just unilaterally decide to close part of the system to new entrants, benefiting those students/providers and screwing other parts of the sector and the students who need that part. feweek.co.uk/dismay-and-d...

I don't know why we've gone with "sickfluencers" when "illfluencers" was _right there_.

The roast is that I obviously do not have a PhD in political economy because I am six years deep in doing it part time and I do not remember what life was like before I started it. 💩

Very nice email to get in the middle of a Monday - this paper has been accepted to a panel for @polstudiesassoc.bsky.social!

I am finding these stories almost unbearably upsetting to read. They should be unbearably upsetting to the lawmakers who created this situation.

There are so many cool political scientists on here. I made not one starter pack, not two, but THREE STARTER PACKS. Here is a thread of the three starter packs I made, plus all the other ones that people interested in politics would like. go.bsky.app/315MyLR

Read @policyatkings.bsky.social work on the impact of cash transfers for people experiencing homelessness and whether they are more effective than traditional forms of help. Doing this kind of research is an essential part of making better policies that work www.theguardian.com/society/2024...

TFW the toddler coughs during their nap and you were supposed to be working on a paper introduction but instead you were doing Christmas lists and now you are sweating watching the monitor to see whether they go back to sleep so you can actually do some writing (or maybe more Xmas shopping)

State schools have closed the gap with private schools in GCSE results, once we adjust for socioeconomic differences in their intakes. New findings in our paper published today in Cambridge Review of Education: https://doi.org/10.1080/0305764X.2024.2420611

It is not all bad news for people with a PhD that the world is getting more authoritarian
