Elected Dems: do not let up on due process and do not let up on Hegseth’s security violations. The admin thinks it can get away with anything. Change that.

"How do these men spout such utter garbage with a straight face? The answer is that they’re in these jobs precisely because they’re the sort of people who can do it." ICYMI @saletan.bsky.social takes apart the administration's tariff lies: www.thebulwark.com/p/presidents...

Dozens of cities are electing mayors and city councilors in 2025, from New York City to Minneapolis and Seattle. Here are the elections in cities of at least 250,000 residents. boltsmag.org/2025-cr...

A 19-year old U.S. citizen was traveling from Albuquerque to Tucson. He was arrested and detained by ICE for 10 days, before his family showed a judge his identification & he was finally released. news.azpm.org/p/news-artic...

Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?" Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

The great @hcrichardson.bsky.social from her speech on the 250th anniversary of the lighting of the lanterns in Boston’s Old North Church. Read this excerpt to the end and you will be rewarded. Read it aloud and it gets better. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/april-18-2...

If you want to make news, make news.

Believing that America can or must be good does not require one to believe that America is or was good or that Americans are more important than anyone else in the world. I don't know who it serves to insist otherwise.

DOGE is a few different things. But one of the biggest is take control of the federal bureaucracy and hand out all the contracts to yours and your friends companies. Then privatize a bunch more stuff and gives those contracts to your cos and your friends' too. Smash and Grab, national edition.

So much contained in these three paragraphs in the NYT:

Alito writing his dissent rn

Omg yall sobbing after watching a clip of neighbors of all races and ages forming a human chain around a father and son to prevent an ice deportation. In Nashville. I’m struggling with my conviction that people are inherently good these days and seeing stuff like this is so moving.

Friendly reminder. In the United States, criminals are entitled to due process. Even if you pay hush money rig an election, steal top secret documents, or incite a mob to overthrow the government; no matter how egregious your crimes, you’re entitled to due process.

just another day in the exoneration/no angels pits

The New York anti-Trump protest today is BIG! Looks like tens of thousands on the streets. #50501movement #HandsOff #NoKings (🎥 L2FTV)

Almost every GOP critique of Powell hiking too late omits that there was a freakin global pandemic and the Fed eventually cranked up rates to 5.3% and kept them there for a year. Doesn’t seem like much political favoritism to me. Biden economy still did well. www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

This is getting fewer headlines than it should. After coming to power promising to help working people, the president is revealing his real priorities by actively making it easier for banks to rip people off.

Somewhere out there, a Judge Xinis clerk just updated the draft order finding probable cause to hold the government in contempt.

Democratic Governor Tony Evers has successfully increased school funding for the next 400 YEARS in Wisconsin by crossing out a few numbers in a bill to change it from “2024–25” to “2425.” The state Supreme Court just upheld his right to do so.

One point that's going to get lost in the discussion of #SCOTUS's intervention in the Alien Enemy Act case: This is the *value* of nationwide injunctions. Without them, you have to go district by district, and the government can try to play games by moving people to districts without relief (yet).

1/2: We have reason to believe that events on 4/19 and/or the 50501 Movement may be misrepresented by the Trump admin in an attempt to justify the use of military force. Let us be clear: our movement is pro-democracy and firmly grounded in non-violence.

We all know this doesn't "solve" the problem. But if nothing else, this shatters the assertion that all Democrats can do is to plead with Republicans since they are in the minority in Congress. It should be a reminder that we can, in fact, expect more from our elected leaders. Do. Something.

“The broader point is that no one is in charge, because Trump isn't in charge, and maybe that's the story journalists should be telling more.” @eschatonblog.com

John Roberts, Neil Gorsuch, Pete Hegseth, Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, Dan Crenshaw, Elise Stefanik and other GOP figures have degrees from Harvard. Add business, and boosters like Jamie Dimon do too. Not only is "biased against conservatives" BS, it's self-aggrandizing "I overcame adversity" BS too.

It's one case, but further evidence that this government can be shamed by public reporting and public opinion kslnewsradio.com/shows-podcas...

This is a bad take by the NYT. The reality is that the government depends on universities to conduct high quality research on a wide range of needs and challenges. And it has worked out well for the country in the discoveries, innovations, treatments and cure our universities have produced.

incredible scenes when you have a president who hasn't achieved object permanence

Appeasing a bully never works. Standing up to a bully can work. Every bully is a coward.

As Oscar Wilde said about Cabinet secretaries, to lose one top political appointee may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose four looks like carelessness. www.mediaite.com/politics/the...

“Government Efficiency” 🧐

Just about every time, JUST GIVE MONEY. Just about every time, JUST GIVE LOCAL. Truly. I know other things may feel more satisfying or tangible or whatever, but this is the approach that will be most empowering to the people doing the actual work, 99% of the time. Don’t just unload your surplus.
